Record of ragnarok invented a fake greek god just like mesperiyan
On Mesperiyan
Yes, the Tumblr-invented not-really Greek goddess. I've had this idea floating in my head for a while now, and this blog doesn't actually exist so I might as well put it here.
The thing with mythology is that there's no actual canon. Pantheons and deities shift and evolve as cultures shift over time, even across space as different regions might worship two different aspects of the same god. My point is, there's no reason why Mesperiyan can't be a new addition. At least for funsies, anyway.
So a few attributes. I'm not super caught up on my Tumblr history, but here are a few things I've gathered:
daughter of Hades (and probably Persephone, they're the only functional couple in the Pantheon)
had half of her face burnt off by Aphrodite. This one is interesting because it draws on Aphrodite's "golden apple, Helen of Troy" sort of personality. Could lend itself to another similar anecdote.
wears a mask? not sure how I feel about this one because a daughter of the Lord of the Dead having a massive scar or even just half her face being a skull sounds super metal
And a few of my own contributions:
She's a very new addition, could that tie into her birth story? ie she's the youngest of Hades' children (or the only one depending on your mythology), maybe some interesting birth story about Cerberus finding her somewhere (gods always tend to be born kind of... curiously), you know something fun like that
I think it would be cool to tie in the whole "she's not a real goddess because Tumblr invented her" thing. Like maybe even within the Pantheon no one is really sure if she exists. Would that make her domain something along the lines of dreams/imagination? (There's probably already a god out there with that attribute, but we've also got Athena and Ares so I think we can share.)
Anyway I know this is dumb but I think it's just a fun little creative writing/character exercise. Also I don't know how I actually feel about the name Mesperiyan. I'd like to find its etymological source, but obviously googling "Mesperiyan" is a bit of a recursive loop. I always like it when names mean something, so. But I guess the name Mesperiyan is already pretty ingrained in Tumblr culture at least so giving her a new name might be counterproductive. Doesn't mean we can't give her some fun epithets!
