Color Idea: Show-Off Shutters

Whether you need to steal a glance as you dash out the door or want a place to stash a reminder note, this shutter mirror could be just the ticket. We repurposed an old pair (these were $1 each at a yard sale) and mounted them on 1/2-inch plywood with an inexpensive mirror ($30 at IKEA) centered in between. Orienting the louvers upward provides slots for slipping notes or cards, or even hooking on small baskets. Adding panel details lends architectural character, and a coat of paint unifies the parts.

This is a nice addition. Your friends’ messages have larger candles, like your own. Now you can see if your friends left messages at a glance.

Some of the message centers don’t work at all.

Others show messages including ones from your friends, but the name disappears before you can zero in on which candle it is, and it doesn’t reappear. This makes it even harder to like friends’ messages.

They’ve also raised (and not disclosed) how many likes you need to earn a heart. This has put a big damper on those who exploit the system to get hearts, but made it even harder for a regular player who doesn’t collaborate with friends to get a heart.

I know this is likely an attempt to encourage players to share a message just for the sake of sharing a message with everyone else instead of just posting random blather to earn a heart from friends who often don’t even read them, but personally I feel like it’s not worth using the message centers any more. I can’t even get a heart on quest days when I’m one of the first to post a message, which gets it seen by more people both early on and thus more likely to get popular. If I want to share something useful or meaningful or just share some news, I use a memory spell or a boat, which I can put almost anywhere I wish.
