She explained online that she and her husband rely on food stamps, WIC, and veteran benefits while struggling to raise two young kids. But when they asked her mother-in-law for help, the response was brutally ironic: “We voted for this.” 🤷‍♂️🔥

And honestly… that one sentence perfectly sums up modern Republican politics. So many people voted for cuts, shutdowns, and attacks on social programs while depending on those exact same programs to survive.

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) will replace the GST/HST credit beginning in July 2026. While the program will operate under a new name, eligibility rules, payment calculations and the overall structure will remain the same.

The federal government says quarterly payment amounts will increase by 25 per cent for five years (2026 to 2031), providing additional support to Canadians with low and modest incomes.

Before the new benefit begins, eligible Canadians will receive a one-time GST/HST credit top-up payment, starting June 5, 2026. The payment is intended to provide immediate financial support during the transition period.

This ties in nicely with an old (ongoing) post/philosophy of mine that I have discussed here numerous times: “Means Testing is a conservative canard; a disingenuous red herring”:

THINK OF IT THIS WAY: Whenever a politician says: “This specific group of people (red herring: millionaires & billionaires) needs to be means tested,” what they REALLY mean is, “let’s carve out a group of people who should be means tested but when it comes down to it, we will means test and deny the same old groups we have always denied services (women, the elderly, Black & brown people, poor people, people with disabilities, etc. etc. etc.)”

Stated differently, saying that rich people need to be ‘means tested’ (which they never are), is a slick way of saying that POOR people need to be means tested: “Oh my gosh, if we means tested Elon Musk, then doesn’t it make sense that we should also means test the millions and mans millions of POOR people who genuinely dO need public assistance??!”

PLEASE MAKE NO MISTAKE: “Means testing” is a scam. A canard, used to deny poor people access to public assistance.

Just wanted to share something insanely cool I just discovered that your followers might want to know about. MA has a program called Card to Culture, where having a Mass HealthConnector insurance plan, EBT card, or WIC card can get you discounted and in some cases FREE tickets to a ton of museums, arts centers, etc! A lot of them allow you to get multiple tickets for family/friends too!

We love a good museum. Social programs are so important for so many reasons

When you start talking about money, and you're on a government assistant program, and you bought or buy things to make you happy. Some people look down on you for that. Cuz the idea is that disabled people, or specifically people on social programs; aren't allowed to do or have things beyond the basic. Sometimes not even basic in some people's eyes.

Because you don't earn your money, some people look down on it. They say oh it's no wonder you're struggling, you bought that coffee, or you bought that plushie or that game. Oh you went on a vacation.

Worst of all, people assume all kinds of things. Like because you're trying to take care of yourself psychologically, you're using the system. Because again. You're getting what's known by some as a handout. Never mind that we're people with needs too. Never mind that. Because unless you use it for the basic stuff, then you're overspending or you're using the system.

Well I got something to say about it:

Fuck Off. Like, you've no idea what it's like to have to squander or save money because you can't work. You're not limited like I am. You don't understand the pain and suffering I go through on a daily basis. So fuck yeah, if I have extra money, I am going to spend it on things that I like so I can save myself from the insanity that is life and the suffering I am enduring.

If you wanna go ahead and report me for using the system, then go ahead honestly. The doctors and other medical professionals all say I can't work. Why am I not allowed to care for my physical and mental health if I am able to? Because buying plushies or games helps me get through the pain. It helps me get through just one day and you're gonna sit there and say I don't deserve it!? Just because I can't work you're gonna sit there and say some shit. Well I got some shit to say too. Back The Fuck Up. You don't know me, my situation, or what I have to deal with. I am for absolute certain if you did, or if you were going through the same bullshit as me, you would be doing the same damn thing, but oh yeah, it's different for you isn't. Yeah, no it isn't. Hypocrite.

Called the food bank assistance line for ppl with disabilities where they deliver the food to your house cause it would take me the whole day and three bus transfers to get to the food bank and back, and we're both disabled and can't drive.

We had applied for SNAP in the past and we were 'eligible' but for $0 🤪 yes it makes no sense.

So to cut our grocery bill we need to supplement. This is a reminder to myself and others that these programs are out there for a reason. To help. Use them when you need them and feel no shame about it. You deserve food and shelter and healthcare.

I sometimes like to look at various games on steam while having my morning coffee and lately the one catching my attention is cod: black ops 7 because my god is that review section brutal lmao

I was never a CoD girlie; I played MW during COVID with my husband and a couple other friends but other than that I have zero idea what is going on with it. But black ops 7's review section on steam is mostly negative with comment after comment of the game being "generic AI slop with a $70 price tag" and I cannot help but laugh.

The more they try shoving AI into everything the more it backfires. Wall Street and all these fat cat rich companies have poured millions into AI projects and now there's talk of there being an AI bubble soon to burst and their investments may all go belly up because, surprise, the general public isn't as on board with it as they initially thought.

It's astounding how much of a different reality these companies live in, and when you realize the stock market is composed of the same like 15 companies just sucking one another off every day, like quite literally passing their stale seed-soaked saliva back and forth, it truly is an entirely different world they live in. One that no average person will ever touch, because they've made it that way.

Anyway, AI is failing (at least for right now) and it's great to see.
