The Louisiana State Museum, in collaboration with Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society of Louisiana, recently hosted the great Olga Cerpa and Mestisay in concert at the Old U.S. Mint Performing Arts Center. Cerpa and her group, who also performed at this year's Los Isleños Fiesta, are among the most prominent and acclaimed exponents of popular folkloric music from the Canary Islands. The Los Isleños Society - based in St. Bernard Parish - honors the history and culture of the Canary Islanders who settled in Louisiana during the late 18th century. In addition to presenting its annual festival, the group runs a museum complex that includes the Ducros Library and the Esteves House.
