fun fact: this cover was originally supposed to be the third ever cover uploaded to the yt channel, but i screwed up the volume controls pretty badly on my first attempt so i gave up on it for. uh. three years --; but it's here now!!!
im definitely not supposed to be drawing this but i suddenly got hit with a clear idea of how meta!void looks outside of his head in his actual environment. im also not beating the edgy allegations orz
i think something really important to note about meta!void is that he's not starting from zero. this whole thing is stemmed from that one line of dialogue from the original mod where he responds to bf's insult about him following the old fnf opponent trope of getting angrier with each phase, which implies:
1) he knows there's a real world where the mod — his mod — took more than a year to produce;
2) he knows about the fnf modding scene in general (therefore understanding the reference of ‘oh he's getting mad how original’ and being able to be offended by it), thus implying;
3) he knows he's specifically in a fnf mod;
4) he knows he's a fictional character;
5) he knows there are players;
6) he lives with these knowledge and functions normally with it.
that's where our starting point is. that he's initially handling this well, even treating it as something natural to confront.
it's the repeatedly slamming him back into it that does him in. the reminder that he doesn't have anything else outside of the mod.
thinking about an au that utilizes Void's 4th wall breaking nature a bit more
tl;dr Void develops stockholm syndrome and a parasocial relationship with you the player and goes insane + i accidentally wrote ddlc and utdr again goddamnit orz
Void being aware when you're replaying the mod over and over. no matter how far he gets in life, his mind always gets dragged back into those same two weeks, being humiliated again and again, transforming into A.C. again and again. unable to change his actions or the outcome that have been hard coded into the very core of his existence. like a nightmare that won't stop reoccurring. a violation.
it was only annoying at first, but the more he's replayed, the more things he notices. the more he notices, the more he sees — the flatness of the assets around him, the rigidness in his movements, the small lags that always happen at the same few specific instances, the time it takes for scenes to load, the whirring of mechanical fans of a computer processing his mod. you.
you.
he sees you.
you who tirelessly restart and partake in the torment. you who smile at his most vulnerable moments. you who have toyed with him so many times that the lags are just a natural part of your dance with him. you who still sit in awe of him despite how many times you've experienced him. you who love him so much you keep coming back to him.
it slowly becomes the only thing he knows. the only, undeniably, ‘real’ thing in his fictional life. everything else fades away, and all he can see and feel is those occasions when he's pulled aside from the progression of his existence and back into replaying that same memory. he begins to enjoy it. he enjoys completing songs with you and being with you. he relishes in being wanted by a real person, being obsessed over by a real person, perhaps being something someone real cannot live without. a fan that wasn't handed to him in the backdrop by the thousands, but one he truly, honestly earned.
until, one day, you stop playing. maybe you finally got bored, maybe life got busy and you simply forgot, maybe you've perished. it doesn't matter.
by that point, he has long since figured out that nothing requires his own input. all of his actions are predetermined, and everything is predetermined to fall in place in a way that makes sense. he cannot act out of place if he tried, and so no one else notices anything. however, in his own head, he's still returning again and again to you, to that dance, the only thing that matters to him anymore. each remembrance twists the same droning story further and further until it becomes something distorted beyond recognition, a mess of suffering and despair and ecstasy.
eventually, all he can accurately recall is that there was a real person who loved him very, very much.
