anyways now that i'm thinking about it, going off on more different interpretations of andraste and how that affects society, i think it'd be fun to have something like.

in canon, for a long period of time, Andraste couldn't have children due to past health issues, so her husband had 3 sons, i think, with another woman. Eventually tho, andraste is able to conceive and goes on to have two daughters.

With that in mind, maybe having daughters, maybe especially having a firstborn as a daughter, is seen as like a blessing from andraste since she only had biological daughters herself.

or maybe in some places, violence against women is very fucking taboo because of andraste, not just because she was a woman, but because she was also a victim - she was enslaved and then she was burned at the stake. and maybe this is why other coutnries also do a chantry schism during the orlais occupation because many women were raped and murdered - Moira's head was famously put to be exposed in denerim, and because of that, other regions did not want to be associated with a chantry that would do such things.

Do you guys ever think about how Kai, in the earlier seasons, was quick to anger and didn’t trust anyone, but later on he became more playful and barely if ever picked on fights? And how this is a reflection of him having to raise Nya by himself, so he had to grow up quickly and build up walls, but now that he has a family and feels safe he doesn’t need those walls anymore because he knows his family is there?

thinkin about how kaiba's last-but-one appearance in the ygo dm manga is this "unbothered. moisturized. happy. in my lane. focused. flourishing." kaiba, like he'd still like to ever win against yugi & atem but it's not chapping his ass anymore

but then in DSoD he gets Weird About It again. which to me definitely suggests it is Not about winning as much as it is about his #1 bestest rival is like DEAD dead. not like "oh he died i guess but he's a friendly ghost & you can hang out with him" but like dead dead.

cuz if that was not a factor, he would not be happy smiley "i'm gonna make blue eyes white carousels to make children happy :)" kaiba here & go totally to pieces 7 months later, right?

ok so this obviously isnt like. NEW to anyone and its not even news to me either but the southern water tribes chief hakoda and his family are narrative foils Literally Metaphorically Subtextually Blatantly Like Its Right THERE in your FACE to the fire nation royal family.

this occured to me starting with kya, and her death, and the immediate effect it had on her family. the family grieve, they have to share the load emotionally and physically, the void left behind is visible in the way we see katara's attitude toward sokka's ambivalent one about her role. obviously she mends and heals, cooks, cleans. shes a girl! right? so Obviously shed know these things sooner or later! right? and sokka being the hunter, the tracker, the map reader those should be obvious traits too as well, duh! right?

to me it instead shows that before eventually leaving to join the war, hakoda had Been there for his children. he was by no means a distant figure, he was there and active in their lives. the chief of their tribe! yes katara steps up, and she takes on more than she shouldve had to chew, but so does sokka. how was his tribe being fed? hes training the tribes children as well, and yes hes shown to be the comedian of the gaang early on, but he doesnt just. HAVE his skillset from nowhere he didnt whip out all his talent from nowhere!

the northern water tribe has many cultural differences, but it still has a chief. and chief arnooks daughter, yue, is referred to as Princess. thats her TITLE thats her INHERITANCE. and we dont think anything of it over the course of the show, why would we? this is a fantasy setting we meet princes and princesses and DRAGONS not to mention the lore within the spirit world and the avatar to begin with.

culturally, doesnt that make sokka and katara... the equivalent of their tribes prince and princess? so where does this leave our family dynamic for them. two leaders of their tribe, and one dead. their family loss leaving a chief, a prince, a princess, and Grangran who gives the two children guidance and wisdom should they accept it. their father leaves on a journey, physical distance.

another family, royalty. two leaders of their nation, and one dead. their family loss leaving a lord, a prince, a princess, and Uncle Iroh who gives the two children guidance and wisdom should they accept it. their father is always nearby, emotional distance. for the prince, this would become a physical distance as well, marked with a scar.

katara and azula have their parallels in aces one hit after another. LITERALLY and tangibly foils. katara and sokka become closer, they bicker and squabble, they trust eachother and have each others back.

what is it zuko says about his sister? "azula always lies" and what is it that azula says? "my mother always thought i was a monster. she was right of course, but it still hurt"

i forgot where i was going with this. perhaps given much different circumstances, these two families wouldve ended up resembling each other, becoming a very different story.

Seagull's Rough Notes o' Noteworthy Eye/Eye Contact Motif Scenes Involving Otto Octavius (Spiderman 2, 2004, at least)

- when Otto speaks, he has a large focus on maintaining eye contact with who he is speaking with - seen especially when Peter is looking at the machine and he encourages him to "go on" coming to his conclusion about how it works - looking on over his shoulder, almost proudly 

 - at the dinner table - when he engages in conversation, he never wavers in eye contact - only once, but it's in reaction to chuckle at Rosie's story  

-during the demonstration, he has primary focus on the sun, keeping eye content with it - in almost awe and surge of pride 

 - Otto when he meets eyes with Rosie at the news of successful firing - but they are covered with goggles now 

 - Otto is determined that his demonstration will stabilize, he angrily denies anything is wrong, till Rosie is killed right in front of him - only then does he take off his googles and look horrified 

 - at the hospital, during the massacre of doctors, the entire scene has Otto's eyes wrapped up, save for when the arms take off the cloth - not himself this time - further signaling their active role 

 - when he protests about not being a criminal, his eyes are uncovered, making direct eye contact with the claws when he speaks

- but when he commits his first crime of robbing the bank, we get to see his famous shades and they are not removed the entire scene until 

 - when Aunt May hits him on the side of the head - his glasses shatter  and so do his intentions to run Peter through 

 - the scene with Harry on the balcony, he takes off his glasses to speak with him more directly - talking as Otto wanting solutions - less of the "us" and "we" as functioning before - this is seen even more prevalent in his wavering disbelief at the mention of Peter Parker being connected via taking pictures of SpiderMan - tying back to his personal, human, connection 

 - continuing crimes ( such as kidnapping MJ) he has shades - severing human connection through lack of human eye contact

 - this human eye contact relevance is established strongly again when Peter knocks Doc down a peg, and he sits in the water, exhausted. When Peter talks to Doc to convince him not to sink into influence again - it is human face to human face - not mask to mask

-when Otto regains back primary control of himself, he looks directly and speaks directly to his claws, maintaining eye contact via their “eyes” in the camera (”Listen to me now. Listen to me now.”)

 - the moments before  his sacrifice, Otto looks over his shoulder at Peter with the sun behind him - without his glasses, further cementing it is Otto's choice now to turn away from it - Otto glancing over shoulder to give a wordless nod 

 - Now, when he sets his footing to pull the sun into the river, he stares directly at it - but it is no longer proud - he is screaming with agony as he strains to pull it to drown it 

 - our final shot of Otto - sinking into the River - Otto maintains eye contact with the audience as he sinks into what is implied to be his grave - but this time - the sun is behind him and he no longer looks at it - just the night sky - far beyond the confines of the river water

There have to be more examples scattered throughout the movie (and I might be reading in way too deep) - but of these in this concept were some o’ my favs.
