A note on the metadisciplinary

Wolkenmachine is a studio for metadisciplinary research and design. What does that actually mean? You might have heard of 'interdisciplinary' or 'transdisciplinary' approaches that combine several disciplines into a new area of inquiry. Such an approach might lead us to think not only about design, for example, but about design in relation with philosophy.

What I mean by 'metadisciplinary' however is something different. It is an approach that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries to create a holistic view. Rather than simply linking two fields at their boundaries, the metadisciplinary emphasizes that the real world is not neatly divided into separate realms. It acknowledges that everything is interrelated in numerous ways, that everything is deeply intertwingled.
