Oathbreaker
If you know anything about the post genre then you’ll be aware that it really is a collaboration of music and not as basic as it may appear. There are many different elements and skills involved to produce that special sound. Whether it’s post rock or post metal it really does take one element of a genre and ramp it up to the max. It’s that artistry that really appeals to me as a music lover.
This love of post music led me to go/try many different gigs/bands, whether I had been a fan of their work for years or not. For me it’s always about experimenting, seeing live music and enjoying the atmosphere.
This brought me to Oathbreaker. I would like to tell you I have been a massive fan of theirs for years, and that I have been following them since they started in 2008. However, that isn’t really the case. I heard about them a few months ago, and knew they were highly regarded in the post genre world, so thought I’d give them a go – as there’s nothing better than getting a feel for a band live. To cut a long story short, Oathbreaker didn’t disappoint. I could feel their music running through my skin. It was fabulous!
Originating from Belgium the band are: Gilles Demolder – bass (original), Lennart Bossu – guitar (original), Caro Tanghe – vocals (original), and Wim Sreppoc – drums (2016).
The playlist was along the lines of:

Glimpse of the Unseen
Undoubtedly the strongest piece of the night was "Glimpse of The Unseen" from the 2011 album ‘Maelstrom’. It was just like the video – intense and strong. Their live performance which I bore witness to, which was just as strong as the recorded version, was energetic, powerful and almost primal. Everyone was mesmerized watching the vocalist, who moved in a manner that seemed possessed. The music was extreme and ‘in-your-face’. A great set!
I wish I had more to say, but ‘they nailed it!’ is as accurate and complete a statement as I can come up with. The sound was good and the atmosphere even better. The crowd (when they let me in to see (I’m small!!)) helped to make an awesome show. I would like to learn more of this group and when I see them again, maybe I’ll get a cheeky interview. We’ll see!
Metal Pixie out.
This took ages to take because they kept falling out 😅 apparently I need a hand with them 😉
