i think one of the saddest things about jack "rougarou metamorphosis" montgomery is how fast his wife turns on him. he's one of the few monsters we ever see with a human family and she turns on him as soon as she knows what he is. and he only tasted human flesh to save her from the hunter. it just makes me sad to think about

But despite of that Of Wolves and Vibrancy is my favourite Ulver track of all time. I love black metal but I love EDM about as much. And this one is so fucking weird. Or the entirety of Ulver of late 90's is so fucking weird. This EP is the prequel to Perdition City and you absolutely can but also cannot tell.

jack "metamorphosis" montgomery as a parallel to sam is so interesting! both are inhuman/what they are because of a parent, who was killed when they were too young to know them. iirc it's never clear whether jack's dad knew what he was either, or what he'd be passing on to his kid. both of them live a fairly normal life, until the thing in them starts to rear its head. sam being watched by demons his whole life is not that different from travis keeping tabs on jack. supernatural occasionally does something kind of interesting with this, where we'll get an ep like bloodlust or metamorphosis or the ghoul!adam ep that looks at the feelings of monsters. it shows us their grief, their quests for revenge, the way they suffer because of what hunters do. for half a second there's a question of whether the hunters are that different from monsters at all? of course they all turn out to be evil, but that half a second...

jack doesn't want to hurt anyone. he doesn't want to be what he is. jack gives into being a rougarou to save his wife from travis, not because the bloodlust overwhelms him. sam gives into demon blood because he can save people, not because he wants power or to rule hell. in the end for both of them it doesn't matter how they became what they are, just that they did it. the inhuman in supernatural are never afforded the benefit of 'intention over action' that hunters get. they wanted to save people. that's what damns you. i'm sick.
