I've just had a lovely evening. I sat out in the sun with a group of people who I love, waiting for a lift to take me to a little village where we were going to be taking a service for a little Methodist chapel. It was pretty scary, because we'd put the service together from scratch, and none of us are that qualified to do anything like that. But we all were involved, and it was beautiful, simply because we all chose together what to do. We sang hymns (Be still, for the presence of the Lord was absolutely beautiful, and spot on), and when the service was over, we had a spontaneous sing-song around the piano. We were all pretty nervous, but everyone did so well!
And then we went back to this lovely old couple's house for tea - with proper finger sandwiches, and home-made cake, and earl grey tea. Then four of us, stayed behind and wandered to the Anglican church in the village, and just... enjoyed the beauty, and the peace. Dusk was falling, and there were trees, and the horizon without buildings in the way. It made me incredibly homesick, but also incredibly peaceful. It's times like those that I remember that I'll never be at home in a city.
