背景故事

星光點亮了一排排的書櫃。書櫃中是一本又一本的書，有些是精裝本，有些沒有名字。

在故事的海洋中，一個人影佇足。閉著眼，他用指尖輕輕撫摸著一本書的書脊。畫面閃過他的眼前，提醒他書中的內容。

思緒和記憶湧上心頭。他的呼吸頓了下。有那麼一片刻，他沉浸於痛苦和悲傷之中，陶醉於深刻的絕望。

「你在這啊。」

另一個身影出現，將他的心思拉回現實。他微笑，「啊，Metsys。你怎麼在這裡？」

「我可以問你一模一樣的問題，Areixyn。」Metsys 答。

「嘛，我在找靈感啊！」他輕易的回答，「我最近有點瓶頸期，你知道嗎？想不到到底該寫些什麼。」

「你在找靈感，」Metsys 環視四周，「在你存放你自己的背景故事的區域？」

「嘛，你知道的，」Areixyn 的眼神游移，「既然過去的我可以想出這麼多版本，或許我可以從中得到一些靈感？」

Metsys 走近，將他的手從書上移開。「星，別說謊了。」

Areixyn 無語的看向地面。

「今天是你生日。」Metsys 說。

「是啊。」他同意，「我進入繁的那天。我離開，然後重生於此的那天。」

「這是你在這裡的原因嗎？你重新翻閱這些故事的原因？」

Areixyn 看向書本們。「或許吧。」

片刻，兩人都沒有說話。寧靜像是棉被一樣覆蓋著他們。

Metsys 打破寧靜，「家裡有蛋糕。」

「是嗎。」

「你想要別的東西的話，我也可以做給你。」

「好。」

仍牽著對方的手，Metsys 帶著 Areixyn 離開了圖書館。

Birthday Rituals

In a field of daisies stands a statue in the shape of a color pencil. On the top of the statue is a single yellow and purple pansy. Sitting against the statue, Areixyn is drawing on a field sketch board. Not far away, Metsys stands and looks at aer.

The paper Areixyn is drawing on has an unfinished sketch of a smiling girl. Metsys looks closely at Areixyn.

“What's the point of this?”

Areixyn laughs. “Mets, you should know me better than to ask me what the point of things are, shouldn't you?”

“I know,” Metsys says, “But every time you're here you feel slightly different. And I don't understand why.”

“Well, bold of you to assume that I know why.” Areixyn starts lining the artwork. “Maybe I just want some day to commemorate my dead child self, you know?”

“From what little I know about humans, humans don't tend to do that.”

“Come on, people remember anniversaries of traumatic events too. Well, some do.”

“Did something traumatic happen today?”

Areixyn’s hand pauses. “Hm. Maybe.”

“Maybe I remember it so clearly that I can tell you what day it was. Or maybe I’ve blocked out the memories and just randomly picked a date. Maybe there even isn't a date of death because it was a drawn out process.”

“But eh, who cares? Poemu’s birthday is May 19th because I say so.” Areixyn pokes at the paper with a painting brush.

“Does drawing her every year make you feel better?”

Ae considers for a moment. “It's something I do, alright.”

“Why?” “Why not?”

Metsys sits down in between the flowers. “…I don't have a counter argument.”

“Hm.” Areixyn continues to color the drawing.

A moment passes in silence. Metsys looks at the sun, forever in a golden sunrise.

“Done!” Areixyn sets down the sketch board and creates two plates of cake. “Now we can enjoy the cake!”

“Fruit cake. As always,” Metsys comments and takes a plate.

“It's the classic birthday cake! With the classic pudding too!” Areixyn takes a bite of the cake.

“Does this imply that you had tasted a birthday cake at least some time in your life in Tricos?”

“Come on, it could have been some kid who decided to share a cake with everyone, you know? Or a kind teacher. Or some ad, I don't know.”

生日的儀式感

雛菊花田中，有一根色鉛筆形狀的雕像，雕像頂部插著一朵紫色和黃色的三色堇。坐在花田中，Areixyn 靠著雕像，在素描板上畫畫。不遠處，Metsys 佇立著，看著他。

Areixyn 畫著一個微笑的女孩的草稿。Metsys 凝視著 Areixyn。

「你做這些的意義是什麼？」

Areixyn 笑了。「 Mets，以你對我的認識，不是該知道別問我東西的意義是什麼嗎？」

「我知道。」Metsys 說，「但每次來到這裡，你都有些不一樣。我不知道為什麼。」

「嘛，我就會知道為什麼嗎？」Areixyn 開始描線稿。「你知道，說不定我就是想要找天來紀念死去的童年的我？」

「以我對人類微薄的認識來說，人類通常不會這麼做。」

「拜託，大家也會記得創傷事件的紀念日的。至少有些人會。」

「今天有發生什麼創傷事件嗎？」

Areixyn 的手停頓了一下。「嗯，或許吧。」

「或許我記得清楚到我可以告訴你那天星期幾。又或許我阻隔了記憶，只是隨便挑了個日期。或許根本沒有死亡日期，因為是一個拖了很久的過程。」

「但，嘛，誰在乎？我說帆繪夢的生日是五月十九，那就是五月十九。」Areixyn 用畫筆在紙上點了一下。

「每年都畫一次她，會讓你感覺好點嗎？」

他思考了片刻。「嘛，總之是我會做的事情。」

「為什麼？」「有何不可？」

Metsys 在花叢中坐下。「……我無話可說。」

「嗯。」Areixyn 繼續上著色。

片刻的寧靜。Metsys 看向太陽，永遠停滯在金黃色日出的太陽。

「好啦！」Areixyn 將畫板放下，創造出兩盤蛋糕。「我們現在可以吃蛋糕啦！」

「水果蛋糕。一如既往。」Metsys 評論，接過一盤。

「這就是最經典的口味！還有最經典的布丁！」Areixyn 吃了一口蛋糕。

「這代表你在繁的時候至少吃過一次生日蛋糕嗎？」

「唔，也可以是其他人生日決定給大家分的嘛。或是某個特別好心的老師。或是某個廣告。我不知道啦。」

Backstory

Starlight illuminates rows and rows of bookshelves. The shelves are scattered with books, some with a hardcover, some unnamed.

Amidst the sea of stories, a figure lingers. Closing their eyes, they trace the spine of a book softly with their fingertips. Images flash before their eyes, reminding them of what the book holds.

Emotions and memories wash over them. Their breath hitches. And for a moment, they indulge in the pain and anguish, reveling in the despair.

“You're here.”

Another figure appears, pulling their mind back to reality. They put on a smile. “Ah, Metsys. What brings you here?”

“I could ask you the same, Areixyn,” Metsys replies.

“Well, I’m just looking for inspiration!” they answer easily, “I’ve kind of been in a writer’s block lately, you know? Just can't think of things to write.”

“You're looking for inspiration,” Metsys looks around. “In the section you store your own backstories?”

“Well, you know,” Areixyn averts aer eyes just a little. “If past me could come up with so many different versions, maybe I could find something that might help?”

Metsys approaches them and gently guides their hand away from the book. “Stop lying, star.”

Areixyn stares at the ground, silent.

“It's your birthday today,” Metsys says.

“It is,” ae agrees, “The day I entered Tricos. The day I left, and was reborn here.”

“Is that why you're here? Why you're reading these stories again?”

Areixyn looks to the books. “Maybe.”

For a moment, neither of them says anything. The silence drapes over them like a blanket.

Metsys breaks the silence, “We have cake at home.”

“Is that so?”

“I could also make you something else if you want.”

“Okay.”

Still holding aer hand, Metsys leads Areixyn out of the library.
