After two TV movies, the first episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker premiered on September 13, 1974. The setting for the TV series switched to Chicago, and Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin) and Tony Vencenzo (Simon Oakland) now worked for INS (Independent News Service). In the premiere episode, Kolchak was convinced that Jack the Ripper was still alive and starting his killing spree again in modern Chicago. ("The Ripper" Kolchak: The Night Stalker, TV Event)

With its madhouse setting symbolizing the battle of one individual against the system, this powerful film features an unforgettable ensemble of characters (including Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd and Brad Dourif in early performances) and became the first film since IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT to sweep the top five Academy Award categories (and was followed by THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS).

Puppet Master (1989)

I’d been hearing about this franchise for years. Everyone said it was soooooo underrated and so good. It was released direct-to-video because the director thought he could get more money out of it that way. That’s always suspicious. It’s about a group of psychics who are summoned to a resort for their friends funeral. And then they’re hunted and killed by puppets. There are 5,000 sequels and after watching this one I decided it was not worth it to continue. I didn’t even finish this one. I got an hour through and just exited the tab. Didn’t stop to pause it or anything. Just clicked out... LEECH WOMAN.

Rating: F. I wanted to like it so bad........ It’s a major disappointment.
