After two TV movies, the first episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker premiered on September 13, 1974. The setting for the TV series switched to Chicago, and Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin) and Tony Vencenzo (Simon Oakland) now worked for INS (Independent News Service).
