☀️ (sun) - What’s your character like at their best?

Hmmm, a very interesting one for Boss. I swear I'm not trying to be pedantic, but that largely depends on definition of 'best'. His idea of best? Snare's? Morally? Happiest?

I guess, in a general like, daily life sense, when all is going well and he’s at the top of his game, he's very...relaxed, seeming. Everything in his life is sort of like clockwork, it's down to a science, everything in its place how it should be, his own role etched out perfectly for him to step into.

With everything functioning so smoothly, he'd just go about business as usual, but he'd have a flow about him. Casual almost, calm, a little charming. He keeps up on work, exercise, socializing, "sleep", incredibly efficient and seemingly unfazed by any roadblocks that arise.

Really, he’s an unemotional guy, and that sort of 'just right' contentment is predominately what he and Snare strive for. Conflict or unexpected changes are just a headache more than anything, and it's especially a pain in his neck when it's a big enough deal he has to handle it publicly.

At his best, he’s unfailingly efficient, levelheaded, and well kempt.

But that's far from his own idea of best, and even farther still from his happiest. He’s incredibly smart, for better and for worse, and that means he gets bored very incredibly easily. That clashes pretty hard with being a mob boss though, because the only place he can channel it is work, and they're not usually the ones who stir up trouble of their own volition, never mind he wouldn't enjoy that anyway.

Snare keeps that in check, being the main plan guy and all, and Boss has definitely gotten a better handle on it as he's gotten older, but this poor dude is like a captive tiger pacing his enclosure. The guy needs some enrichment. That isn't crime.

I had a dream yesterday in which Mafiafell brothers (Boss and Snare if I remember correctly) they were actors undercover.

I'm writing to you about it here because I'm curious what you think about this idea. I know your story is a bit different but, what if?

So here is the dream in a nutshell.

On a daily basis they were known as famous actors from their city, but in reality they secretly ran a mafia that ruled a certain part of the city. When they were on various "trips" They wore masks so that no one would recognize them. In this dream I was sort of their manager and I had to make sure they showed up at all the events they agreed to. It was sometimes difficult because they would suddenly disappear without a trace (of course, for mafia business) but I didn't know that. The most annoying one was Papyrus because he disappeared most often and very neatly avoided answering the question "Where have you been?!". It might have been a bit of a romance in a way- BUT IF IT'S THAT BAD THEN LET'S FORGET ABOUT IT!

Okay okay okay mind is going a million miles per hour bc that's such??? An insanely neat concept??

First- ough, wait, thank you!!! That's so incredibly sweet of you to say and I'm so happy my silly ramblings n/or doodles could inspire someone ;; 💗🩵❕

But! The dream-idea! I wouldn't say it's impossible per se! It wouldn't make any sense as any sort of like "continuation" of my classic mf interp, but as its own thing, it would be a really interesting set up to explore!

What got them in the business was, essentially, W.D. Gaster made them to be his successors, more or less. From the first moment of consciousness all the way up to the present the brothers knew what they were made as and for, which really heavily influences the way that AU works (at least in regards to them, although Gaster actually influenced most of the other characters' lives as well, but I won't get into that lol)

If, perhaps, Gaster and his own upbringing had been different, or he'd "disappeared" much much earlier in the plot, it's possible the brother's could've gotten into a life like that through some other means! Or perhaps they'd never been connected to organized crime at all, orphaned very young with no memory of their "father", struggling to get by and ultimately winding up in organized crime and show business, building their rep and "family" over the years, until being able to have something more serious and sustainable, all the while maintaining their momentum in the spotlight as well.

The MASK thing, I got such strong visuals for that, but it might be wildly different from your own, they looked a little like ultron/birds??? Black steel with red or gold eyes, Papyrus's of course being more narrow and pointed, Sans's more blocky. Anyway.

As for a manager/insert/romance element, I wouldn't say that's a bad idea at all!!! It'd be great for someone who writes that sort of thing, and just as a character aside, it'd be super fun to have a manager who wasn't in the know abt their crime lives at all but constantly exasperated with their, especially Papyrus's, slipperiness, perhaps could also be Mettaton if angling it more just Standard AU stuff??

But otherwise, as like a self insert type of character for a /papyrus fic, it would be SO intriguing to watch how things unfold over the course of the story, plus, it's still a fell-mafia based world, so of course there's tons of room for drama, angst, hurt/comfort, ACTION!!! OUGH !! It's cool!!!

What an interesting interesting idea, man, I'm gunna see if I can sketch out some ideas or smth bc I haven't so many visuals for how the brothers present depending on when they're being Celebrities vs Crime Bosses...

Pick some of your favorite boys. What are their hobbies?

Okay so instead of favorite boys, I went with some boys who's hobbies I haven't really talked abt bc I feel like I've definitely talked abt my favorite boys' hobbies a bit extensively haha

Boss (mafiafell Papyrus) - not that literally anyone ever under any circumstances would find out, but he actually occasionally enjoys creative writing! It's nothing too fanciful usually, mostly only fiction in the sense it didn't actually happen, but could have if the characters actually existed, you know what I mean? It sort of like journaling adjacent for him, since he would never in a million years keep something as damning as a journal, but it's still therapeutic to him nonetheless.

Clover (sweetswap Papyrus) - he likes to make bracelets! He has a handful of hobbies, and some he's likely share with others (like enjoying photography or painting miniatures), but he’s just about the only one with a specific interest in something like that! It started from Berry giving him a bracelet to stim with when he was a lot younger, and grew into collecting them, sort of, and then eventually making them! Nothing like proper jewelry, just the simply kinds with different beads or out of braided string. He enjoys it a lot, and often gives them as gifts to those he really likes <3

Cire (lovefell Sans) - He doesn't just collect fancy leather, he refurbishes it, too! Nothing too over the top, as it's something he likes to do to relax and unwind, so it wouldn't work as well if it was too labor intensive, but something about the repetitiveness of the various steps gives him time to think without getting too lost in his own thoughts.

For the sake of this not getting too long, I stop there but if anyone would like any more feel free to lmk :*)

Definitely not a bird person, or really any high maintenance animal that could be considered messy, and birds especially are usually loud, I don't think he'd enjoy that at all :*(

That being said, I usually hc most Fell Papyri having a special soft spot for cats, and while I could imagine a cat suiting his lifestyle better than most other animals, I'd honestly say it's tied with dogs!

He’s not much of a pet person, but growing up around all the dog monsters who worked for his father gave him an appreciation for dogs' very loyal and affectionate natures. Maybe they're not the brightest, but eh, they do their jobs.

While he wouldn't keep a pet of his own volition, if he came into one through unusual circumstances, he'd become somewhat soft for either a well trained dog or a cat. Though purely aesthetically speaking, he does also like snakes a bit.

If Boss went out to get a coffee/hot drink, what kind of place would he go? What is his go to order? If he went to a bar, what kind of place would he go? What is his go to order?

So, typically speaking, it's important to keep up with appearances for him. That means predominantly only going to snooty places and places they've vetted as safe, more or less, so if he wasn't just making his preferred beverage at home, he'd most likely stop somewhere like a high end hotel's connected cafe, or a proper rooftop cafe/restaurant type place if he wanted to stay for a little while.

If he’s at a cafe, his go-to drink is generally just espresso, or maybe an americano, but at home he sometimes mixes some cocoa powder and honey into his coffee or espresso and calls it a mocha <3

As for bars, he’s a lot more exclusive with things involving alcohol, and would predominantly only go to Grillby's, a high end night club owned by his brother. It's pretty fancy and secure, and he doesn't have much interest in drinking anything but scotch. He will, however, occasionally let Grillby make him something with Absinthe, if he needs something with a little more kick.

A while ago, I'd written this snippet of how the mf brothers wind up with Frisk under their care. I found it again and reread it, and while it definitely needs some updating, it did get me thinking about them again.

Initially, Frisk does stay with the brothers, at an apartment they share for work (with both brothers also having their own individual places they generally prefer to stay otherwise). They come up with a game plan, and then Frisk winds up going to stay with Toriel more permanently. However, there is still a period of time before then where they come to know the brothers a little better.

Snare is the man behind the curtain, the plan maker, the book keeper, meaning he doesn't put so much stock into having a charismatic front. He’s rougher around the edges and never liked kids to begin with, but something about the brat reminds him of Papyrus when he was little has him being...maybe a smidge nicer than he'd usually be.

Boss, conversely, is more so the 'face' of operations. Keeps up their fronts, travels, shakes hands, makes deals – so he's more used to acting accordingly based on what the situation demands. Frisk is a small child, and a...delicate seeming one at that, so he tries not to come across quite so frightening to them. It's important no one ever believes they'd intentionally hurt nor scared the poor thing, after all. But even despite also liking kids the least of any age group, he comes to find they are perhaps...more tolerable than most.

Frisk comes to, almost reluctantly, see the both of them as...sort of uncles, with Snare leaning toward more of a gruff but begrudgingly caring older brother, and unfortunately for both of them, Boss leaning more toward a distant father.
