The TD was introduced in January 1950 powered by the same XPAG 1250cc engine as the earlier TC now linked to a modified hypoid-geared rear axle, rack and pinion steering and different transmission. In addition the TD featured smaller 15-inch disc type road wheels and unlike the TC the TD was now also available in LHD for export markets, the car was also 5 inches wider than the TC which in turn was 4 inches wider than the TB. The first TDs were built in 1949 in readiness for the 1950 model year Nearly 30,000 TDs had been produced, including about 1700 Mk II models, with only 1,656 available to the home market 23,488 were exported to the USA with the others exported to other markets, The Mark 2 increased power to 57bhp but these could be further tuned up to 90bhp.
