Commemorating the Disbandment of the Machine Gun Corps
Last weekend I had the privilege of taking part in a shoot to commemorate the centennial of the disbandment of the British Army’s Machine Gun Corps. Formed during the Great War the MGC was instrumental in establishing best practice and doctrine with the legendary Vickers Machine Gun.
The event was organised by the Vickers MG Research Collection & Association. We had 16 guns on the line and demonstrated how they would have been used with many of us in period uniform ranging from 1914 up to 1968 when the Vickers finally left British service.
Here’s some footage from the event:
On Saturday 16th, as part of another special event to commemorate the disbandment of the MGC and the legacy of the Vickers Gun, I’ll be giving a talk on indirect fire at the National Army Museum in London. The event is free to attend and there will be displays and talks throughout the day. You can find out more about the event here.
