Welcome to the club mon cherie! Come, sit in my uncomfortably creaky porch chairs with badly-sewn embroidery on the pillows and join me as we stare out at the lawn at all the youths running about and reminisce on the good ol’ days. I have handmade unsweetened ice tea, poured out of the Arizona jar myself (but I cut up a lemon so it’s handmade.)

“Okay maybe something about Kya wanting to travel, and Lin being upset she's gone a lot“
Lin frowned when she got back to the apartment to find Kya’s things were gone and a note on the table saying she was traveling to Ba Sing Se for a few weeks to meet up with an old friend.
“Not even a warning.” Lin sighed to herself as she let her work duffle bag and metal armor land on the floor with a heavy thud. She knew Kya was one to do this, to pick up and leave for sometimes months on end to go visit with friends across the world. Lin would always worry for Kya’s safety while she was away. So much had happened in the world, Lin knew it wasn’t safe. Visions of Kya almost destroyed by Zaheer and his friends would haunt her lonely nights as she lay in the cold bed wishing and praying for Kya to return safely when she was done wandering.
Lin moved to put the letter in the drawer under her desk, to add to the few others she had received over the last few years. Sometimes Kya would just leave without a warning or a letter saying where she went. Lin hated those weeks the most. Her own fears of Kya being kidnapped and hurt because of her position in the city would keep her up as she paced.
Tonight the metalbender drew up a hot bath and wondered if she could try to get some extra hours in the office over the weekend. She had planned to be off the next two days, but without Kya here there was no point to stay in the house alone. Lin sat back in the tub sinking into the almost scalding water up till the surface of the water danced around her cheeks and barely covered her eyes.
Taking a deep breath she submerged fully and let the heat of the water and the breath in her lungs be the only thing she focused on for a few minutes. Lin let the day soak away from her aging body until the water cooled to be just above warm. She then washed and moved to dry off as she moved she caught sight of herself in the mirror. Her body had aged, still strong due to her training and her job, but now she could see the sagging skin and the lines aging her face. She was getting old.
Lin thought about Kya, how she was even older than her, not by much but still. Lin wondered when the waterbender would settle down and stay for longer than six months with her, at home.
Maybe it was getting time to retire… maybe if Lin could put her work aside and be home more often then Kya would be more tempted to stay… Maybe.
Lin sighed at the thoughts knowing that Kya had roamed her whole life and she knew even Lin being home all the time with her wouldn't stop the waterbender from growing restless again. Kya so hated staying in one place too long. She pulled on a black nightshirt and some grey pajama pants before she moved to dry out her hair and head to bed. Lin didn’t feel hungry tonight, coming home to find Kya gone usually stole her appetite as worry and pain at Kya not even swinging by the office to tell her she had gone twisted her stomach. Instead she lay down on the bed under the covers and tried to stop her mind from wandering. Trying to focus on sleep, not the visions of Kya injured and coughing on her own blood in that cave.
