Quentin Coldwater is flying to New York City to meet his future in-laws for the first time. Eliot Waugh is going home for Christmas for the first time in four years. After A blizzard shuts down all the airports on the Eastern Seaboard, Quentin accepts a ride from Eliot and the Pickwicks. Sometimes it takes a detour to lead you to your soulmate.

this was such a fun project ahh! :)) im really happy our floundering fandom could come up with something so big and wholesome. im proud to have this as one of my final tm graphics. and it was really fun working with you, steph!! your writing is so wonderful and sugar-sweet and thoughtful. thank you for being so responsive and understanding.

   After a second, Quentin says, "Because. Because they glow, you know? Just like—they're always. Moving, and—and changing, making—they make the pattern more interesting, wherever they turn up. It's like. A magical spotlight, or. Or whatever, they make—whatever they're next to always. Looks better, with them, you know?": and Eliot bows his head.    "I mean," Quentin says, after a pause, "they're you, aren't they?"    Eliot swallows. "Generous," he says, quiet.    "I mean." Quentin hesitates. "Yeah?"; and Eliot looks back up at the landing above him.    Metal. Shadow. White—blurring—    "Anyway," Quentin says. "It's not like—"    "Cups," Eliot says; and Quentin says, "—you can really be—sure—uh—"; and then, after a long, taut moment, "...Cups?"    "Yeah," Eliot says. "Cups. Not moons"; and scrubs at his face. "Like—cups for water, or, or tea, or—to hold things," Eliot—tries to explain; feeling—desperate, for some reason: needful, in an odd, unstable way: he can't—he can't quite— "Or bowls," he tries. "To. To feed people. To—to nourish them. You know?"    Quentin is silent, for a long, long moment, before he says, "I can't cook."    "You don't need to," Eliot says.    Throat sore.    Quentin doesn't say anything, for a long, long time. Then he says, "Candles. A—against the darkness"; and Eliot wipes at his face: smudges of plum-purple. Almost-black.

Fic: by the light of another moon

Summary: Quentin Coldwater has given up on love, focusing on his daughter and his family, but when his Fillorian foster sister, Fen, does a holiday home swap with a magician from Earth named Eliot Waugh, Quentin begins to realize romance might not be over for him after all. Meanwhile, on Earth, as Fen spends more time with Eliot's best friend, Margo Hanson, Fen has some realizations about her own heart and her dreams for the future.
