Shut up, im not over Aaron Soto🙂
Hi my loves ✨ Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
.
.
There was a special person I was able to meet at Bookcon last year, and it was @adamsilvera . For those of you who don’t know, I’m Puerto Rican. I was there when the hurricane happened, and it was hard to wrap my mind around what was happening at the time. Reading kept me occupied in my sleepless nights and during the day when there was nothing to do. Two books specifically gave me hope: they both die at the end and history is all you left me. I knew Adam was a Puerto Rican author but I didn’t know that his characters were as well.
They both die at the end gave me a kind of hope I didn’t know I needed during those weeks without electricity or water. When El Yunque was mentioned in the book, I just lost it. I thought about all the loss we now had and how hard it would be for us to rebuild and start over, but that eventually we would.
Being able to meet this amazing person and babble on and on about how it helped me get through those weeks really meant a lot to me. I will always cherish his books and appreciate the time he gave me to say everything I needed to say (even if he couldn’t understand me because I was crying). Thank you so much @adamsilvera , you have no idea how much your books mean to me.
While we can't always engineer our own happy endings, we can learn how to be more happy than not with the cards we've been dealt.
Adam Silvera, authors notes of "More Happy Than Not"
I've become this happiness scavenger who picks away at the ugliness of the world, because if there's happiness tucked away in my tragedies, I'll find it no matter what. If the blind can find joy in music, and the deaf can discover it with colors, I will do my best to always find the sun in the darkness because my life isn't one sad ending—it's a series of endless happy beginnings.
I say the word out loud, about myself, because even though I never chose this, I can choose to accept it before it's too late.
Adam Silvera, "More Happy Than Not"
Me after reading More Happy Than Not
Sometimes pain is so unmanageable that the idea of spending another day with it seems impossible. Other times pain acts as a compass to help you get through the messier tunnels of growing up. But the pain can only help you find happiness if you can remember it.
