Fuzzy Thoughts - Fumbling the Script
There you are - watching your favorite show. Your favorite characters have been set up for that scene you've been waiting for! it's a poignant moment... you can feel it coming in the air! Revelation is nigh!!
We are gonna get the good shit tonight, baby!
THEN:
Nope. Somebody opts for lame-ass crap that leave everyone going WTF?
We've all experienced it - that 'throw something at the screen' moment.
Some times it's a tiny thing: STTOS Spock's Brain (or how many times can you say 'brain' in 42 minutes?) "Brain and brain! What is brain?" Some times it's huge: The entire season of Dallas dealing with Bobby Ewing's death, only to find out it was a dream. Some times it is just wrong: The double down death of Glenn Rhee in TWD.
What ever and where ever the thing is - THAT is a moment the nail hits the coffin. From then on it's:
Eeny, meeny, miny, mo, God I hate this f**king show.
And they can't take it back. It can't be unseen, unscripted, unfilmed, unknown. We are done.
But... this meta issue is not what I want to talk about.
I want to talk about Miami Vice and how my 19" Phillips developed a cracked UHF knob the Friday night that the cable box mysteriously broke.
It was this:
TBH, my reaction was delayed because it was the 80s and there were still a few Quaaludes floating around. I mean, after season 4s The Cows of October, there is no excuse.
NO EXCUSE. ZIP. ZILCH. NONE. NADA.
However, I did not start chucking composers at the TV until Miami Squeeze. Indeed it was ↑ this scene - The Glueman scene - that sent the bust of Beethoven flying. So help me Crockett - if my 45 would have been loaded I would have shot the tube.
Where's the hand holding? Where's the sincerity? In short, where's the love? (Popular ships of the 80s aside) these two characters had something, there was an understanding, and acceptance. Crockett may very well have loved Tubbs, but he and Castillo were brothers In The Hallowed Order of the Tortured Soul© .
This should have been the continuation of "C & T discover Martin shot" scene where Crockett bends tenderly over his friend and brother cooing "hold on, Marty."
But no. We get this ↓
Miami Vice gave Fanfiction Writers so much material to work with... all the time... every episode... continuously. Even when MV producers drew down on Fandom in t85 with a C&D injunction for the letter zine Vice Line Fandom persisted... quietly. But... GLUE MAN?
PLEEEEEZZZ!
< I can glue 20 men in 6 minutes. >
