This beautiful Victorian gown has the distinction of being used for both adaptations of Edith Wharton's 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔, and it is a great example of how high-definition cameras can drastically bring out the details in a costume. The gown was first worn by Carla Gugino as Nan St. George in the 1995 version, and then later by Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable in the AppleTV+ version in 2023. The Phoenician Scheme is not your average crime movie. It’s a mix of dark comedy, family drama, and strange spy action. Directed by Wes Anderson, the movie looks beautiful from start to finish. Every frame is like a painting.
The story follows a rich businessman named Zsa-Zsa Korda (played by Benicio del Toro). He almost dies and decides to give everything to his daughter — who is a nun. Together, they get pulled into a plan that involves terrorists, secret agents, and powerful people.
This movie is not fast or loud. It’s calm, slow, and full of strange moments. Some parts are funny in a quiet way. Others are deep and emotional.
The performances are great. Mia Threapleton, who plays the daughter, really shines. She shows calm and power at the same time. Del Toro plays the father with confidence and mystery.
