What types of extranormal entities are able to be stored by a salt circle? Are there any kind that are just hindered by one? Are there any that people think are affected but aren't?

A lot of them are. It has to do with salt's important distinction in many human cultures as a substance of sanitation and protection - the development of salted meats is a huge thing, culturally and technologically. That big of a psychic weight has sway. Ghosts, undead, demons, it'll slow down many forms of Outsider. MIBs, actually, are confused by it enough that it'll stop them in their tracks for a while. Vampires are not effected, though. It's weird. Moving over running water gives them a headache but not salt.
