I spend a lot of time setting up a pillow fort surrounding my microphone when I do voice acting auditions. Foam or fabric around a mic keeps the recording from sounding too "live". That is, too echo-y and too hollow-sounding. Especially if the sound bounces back into the mic from a hard surface like a wall or a desktop. I wish I had a little booth that I could step into at home, but I'm not at that stage in my career where it seems viable to turn my walk-in closet into a studio! I was thinking of how I might recreate a sound booth in small scale, and hit on the idea of a tiny desk-top booth for my microphone itself. I picked up a bread box, sanded and painted it to match my decor, and lined it with craft foam. I'm really impressed by how dampened the sound is. I can actually hear difference, and a good one! And when I'm not doing an audition, I can just close the little cabinet, and my mic is out of sight. I hate to write with clutter around me, so this is the perfect solution. . . . #micbooth #voiceactorslife #voiceactor #voiceacting #VA #actorslife #acting #writerslife #writing https://www.instagram.com/p/CYNaA4zNYZx/?utm_medium=tumblr
