Muppet Song of the Day: "The Gnu"
Written by Michael Flanders and Donald Swann
Michael Henry Flanders - 1922 - 1975
Not to be mixed up with Ned, as Google seems to want to do. Another of Brian's comic favourites.
Actor, writer, broadcaster and, most famously, one half of comic singing due, Flanders & Swann (with his comedy partner and great friend, Donald Swann),
He contracted polio whilst service in the Royal Navy Reserve in 1943 and performed in a wheelchair. As Swann played the piano, both performers were usually seated. He was an ardent campaigner for disability rights (which were non-existent during his lifetime).
Brian made me put this one in as he says it looks like me about 15-20 years ago. OK, maybe my less handsome brother.
Another one who died (of a brain aneurysm) ridiculously young and, again, I think if he had lived on he would have just got more and more attractive.
It's spring in England. I missed it last year, I was in the bathroom.

The Wompom by Flanders and Swann.
I unashamedly love the silliness of this song.
Flanders and Swann - The Wompom
It's rather marvellous when you think about it, isn't it? That - you know, if you want to go to New York, say, instead of just lying about for days on end like on a floating Selfridges, doing nothing, eating far too much...all you have to do is just...jump on a plane. Seventeen miles outside London. At 2 O'Clock in the morning.
