The Trump Administration CDC has scaled back monitoring of food-borne illnesses. Obviously White House ballrooms and color-changing reflecting pools are considered a higher priority by Trump. Oh yeah, there's also the pointless Iran war which may be costing $80 to $100 billion. Who needs disease prevention when you can bomb civilian infrastructure?

As a result of CDC cutbacks, there's now an outbreak of cyclospora – the most notable symptom of which is explosive diarrhea which can last for weeks. The disease has now spread to at least 34 states.

Trump gave us a new forever war in February and now he's giving America forever diarrhea.

The thing about doomsday preppers is, the worse things get, the more I genuinely understand the desire, but a lot of these people really seem like they're cosplaying the silly "we're all going to be soldiers fighting zombies/marauders/aliens/demons" apocalypse in the present to make themselves feel better rather than actually preparing for a real emergency.

Why aren't you building a greenhouse and learning how to farm? Or building a smithy and learning how to make knives and bullets lol. I don't care how many boxes of bullets you bought before the end times, eventually you WILL run out and your knives will get dull or break or get lost. Why aren't you learning how to make and maintain them? Or more realistically, why aren't you learning archery and how to make bows and fletch arrows so you can still hunt for food when the gun inevitably breaks at some point.

Why aren't there preindustrial life skills workshops or something? That actually sounds fun. There could be spinning wheels and looms how to spin yarn, and how to make paper and rope and how to churn butter or make ice cream. There could be nature classes on how to identify which plants are edible, which are medicinal, which ones are fun, and which ones will kill you. How to filter and boil water the old fashioned way so you don't die of the 57 different parasites in the water. How to make snares or nets, how to cleanly gut a fish or a rabbit or a deer, how to skin and tan a hide. How to light a fire with a bow drill when you don't have flint or tinder, let alone a lighter.

You could learn woodblock printing or get the schematics for a printing press and build one. Speaking of the printing press, why do you not have a gigantic library in the basement? Maybe I'm giving myself away here, but that's the first thing I'd do lol. The Apocalypse is going to be boring as fuck without any reading material, and honestly, not worth living through.

Same thing with musical instruments, buy a bunch, but also get the schematics on how to build a bunch, the apocalypse will provide endless downtime, you can learn to play guitar.

Speaking of looms, why are you not hoarding bolts and bolts of various fabrics, making cloth is a huge pain in the ass and you'll need to make new clothes eventually, either for new humans or for the same humans when their clothes get ruined. Also when the guy said they might have to eat the Llama if things got bad, I knew he didn't know what he was talking about. The Llama is there for wool and milk, you're going to make things worse if you kill the Llama for a little bit of meat.

I don't know. I suppose I feel like, if you're going to plan for society to collapse and actually build a place set up for it, why wouldn't you actually commit to the bit. This and a lot of things like it feels more like a getaway camp with an apocalypse theme.
