The time traveling alien known as the Doctor (Doctor 5) and his companions arrived in England in 1666. The inhabitants were in fear of the plague. To make matters worse, people kept sighting the Grim Reaper. The Doctor uncovered an alien plot to use plague carrying rats to depopulate the Earth. This all lead to accidentally starting the Great Fire on September 2, 1666. The serial saw the destruction of the sonic screwdriver, which would not return until Doctor Who the Movie.
