Former South Carolina police officer Michael Slager was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of Walter Scott, reports ABC News. U.S. District Judge David Norton ruled that Slager committed second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, when he shot and killed 50-year-old Walter Scott, who was unarmed, in 2015. I couldn't repost the clips of that juror from the #WalterScott case, #DorseyMontgomery, on my pg. I debated back & forth w/myself, but decided against it for my own peace of mind. Elie Mystal, editor of Above The Law, said acquitting black defendants regardless of #guilt would “put the shoe on the other foot for a change.” “Maybe it’s time for black people to use the same #tool white people have been using to defy a system they do not consent to: jury nullification,” Mr. Mystalsaid in the op-ed published Wednesday. “White juries regularly refuse to convict or indict #cops for #murder. White juries refuse to convict vigilantes who murder #blackchildren. White juries refuse to convict other white people for property #crimes. “Maybe it’s time minorities got in the game?” he continued. “#Blackpeople lucky enough to get on a jury could use that power to acquit any person charged with a crime against #whitemen & white male institutions.” Mr. Mystal, a graduate of #Harvard Law School, said the severity of the #crime makes no difference. “Assault?
