!!! - "Pardon My Freedom"

I was always mildly interested in !!!, and then I got to see them on my DVD of Michiganfest, and they just seemed like a super-cool live band.  So, I got Louden Up Now somewhere, and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't sure it was something that I'd be able to listen to all the time or anything.  My ex really enjoyed it, though, so I held on to it.  Later on, when my brother got Myth Takes, I checked it out too, and I think it's a slightly more solid album.

At any rate, I got to see them live at Langerado, and they really do burn the motherfucking house down when they perform live.  If you get the chance, it's worth it.  You don't need to be all that familiar with their songs.  They will make you dance regardless.  This song is brilliant if you love cussing, and/or hate President Bush.

Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - "Biomusicology"

A gorgeous song, and like so many others that I love, it builds to an awesome climax.  I've seen Ted Leo twice, and he's just such an amazing presence.  Like, I can't imagine him ever being nervous or anxious at open-mic nights when he was starting out, or busking, or whatever he did to get his chops.  He's just an inimitable singer/songwriter.

There's a pretty fantastic version of them doing this song on a concert DVD called Michiganfest, along with a lot of other great stuff.  It's pretty underground, but it's really fun watching them pass out instruments to audience members to help out during the ending section of the song.

I don't know how I feel about the album cover, but it was their first, so I guess I can cut them a little slack.
