This mile marker was placed in 1754 to guide travelers to the seat of Sussex County government, the "Logg Gaol", which was an early name for Johnsonburg, #NewJersey. The marker notes that "Logg Gaol" is two miles away. It is located on present-day County Route 612. "Logg Gaol" was the first public building in Sussex County, erected in 1753.
