2025 Favorites and Not

Ha! Thank you for the tag @zennihilation. I am actually going to try and answer this one.

1. Favorite character to write for/about

Is it shocking to anyone when this is answered with "my OCs"? Because let's face it, our characters are fun to write and no one knows them like we do. Favorite OC to write? I trade 'em out like I change smallclothes. Often. I hope. I think. Maybe? Right now, the rotation seems to be Brenna, Riven, Senka, and Loïc. Puff, Puff, Give. Don't fuck up the rotation. <3

2. Least favorite character to write for/about

I haven't really come across one where I have been like: "Fuck. You again?"

3. Favorite pairing

Obviously, my OCs and their LIs. Isn't that true for just about anyone? Out of my loves? I prefer to delve deeply into Hancock and Brenna, as well as Astarion and Riven. Their vibes are what fuel me. Honorable Mention - Senka and Lucanis, because believe it or not, I have their whole story planned. I love him for his patience with her. He's a doll.

4. Least favorite pairing

Not touching that publicly with a ten-foot pole. /snort. I ain't no fool. Besides, if it makes others happy, why the hell should I give a damn? Do you, baby, do you! Count on me to toss you a wink and high five in support. And a smack on the ass as I walk by, if that's your thing. In encouragement, of course.

5. Favorite POV and Tense

/shrug. I don't have one. I bounce all over.

6. Something new you did this year

Exchanges and Events. "Published" smut NOT FOR MY OCs. Which was trying and kind of awkward for some reason. I think I'm getting better. I fuckin' hope.

7.Something other people have told you that you're good at

Whimsy? /laughs. Sincerely, THANK YOU, random person, for that. It's something I will never forget.

8. Something you think you're good at

Sarcasm. Drinking coffee. Oh.. not that? Baking. Playing with things called words when I feel inspired.

9. Something you want to improve on

Always my writing.

10. Favorite thing you read this year:

Are we talking fanfiction? Because if so, you're about to be disappointed. That being said, let's preface this with a simple fact: When I am writing, I don't read fanfic. I don't want to be influenced by someone else, whether intentionally or nah. So, I haven't read much fanfic this year. My bad. Though, from the little I DID read: I was delightfully surprised by @stormemes11 fic about Senka and Arojan... I ship them so hard. Then there was also a moment of bonding for Lucas and Senka by @apothe-cary that got me in the feels. I still get all *sniffle, sniffle* when I read it. Then, @zennihilation had me laughing with the Elves on the Shelf, aka we in jail fic. @yappacadaver 's fic, "The Worse It Gets" with Rayumi is really good. I know nothing about that 'verse but am invested in Yumi and everything that happens with these two. Yumi is relatable AF. /grin. Published Books? Easy. I reread John Dies at the End by Jason Pargin and Jim Morrison's Adventures in the Afterlife by Mick Farren. New Book : I love me some Grady Hendrix. Read Witchcraft for Wayward Girls and was not disappointed.

11. Favorite event you did this year

Hands down Rookfest! It was so much fun! Chaos... meeting new people, kidnapping fellow Rooks. All very much in line with Rook energy. Simply wonderful.

12. Favorite song to listen to while you write/get you in the writing mood

Don't have one. The music has to nurture the vibes of the story. It's the age-old question: what came first, the plot or the song?

13. Favorite type of fic to write (crack, fluff, angst, smut, etc)

It depends on the characters I am writing for and my mood. I love it all.

Benzedrine in particular and amphetamine in general were close to being an exact chemical analogue of traditional American virtues—stamina, dedication, hard work, endurance, and the willingness to repeat mindless actions for hours on end. This fact was not ignored by capitalists and captains of industry. Far from discouraging drug use on the factory floor, a number of industrialists—Henry Ford reputedly among them—studied, at least in theory, the effects that the distribution of amphetamines to the labor force might have on the equation between manpower and productivity in manufacturing industries. A drug that would narrow the machine operator’s focus, and make him or her more at one with their machine had to be good for any business from the mighty General Motors to the smallest and most sweaty of garment industry sweatshops. Meanwhile the old-time Hollywood studio bosses like Harry Cohen and Louis B. Mayer didn’t bother to conduct studies. They didn’t even hesitate. They saw amphetamine as a chemical tool that could reduce the budgets on their movies, and they immediately put it to use. They went right ahead and fed speed to their performers to keep them animated on camera during extended shoots. (Or, in some cases, to cure monumental movie star hangovers.) Child actors seem to have been particular targets of this chemical talent enhancement. Edgar Broughton Band: "Out Demons Out" / "Momma's Reward (Keep Them Freaks A-Rollin')" (1970)

"Out demons out! Out demons out! Out demons out!"

Unlikely as it may seem, this repetitive but enthusiastic mantra exclaimed by a very stoned free festival audience, propelled the Edgar Broughton Band into the U.K. Top 40, peaking at No. 39 during a five-week run, some 55 years ago.

But then, "Out Demons Out" was more than a self-administered mass exorcism; it's a reflection of its time, when rare bands like the Broughtons, The Deviants, and Pink Fairies, to name a few -- backed and instigated by the underground newspaper, International Times -- gave voice to the inflammatory U.K. freak scene.

Let me make a distinction: while most hippies were placing flowers in their hair and preaching peace and love in the name of music and fashion, the much less numerous, far more cynical freaks were actively seeking revolution, while gleefully exposing their peers' hypocrisy.

Alas, it goes without saying that the freaks' grand ambitions were just as delusional and short-lived as their less involved brethren (you know them today as conservative Baby Boomers -- talk about betrayal!), but at least they left behind sonic curiosities like this.

Hopefully, this long socio-political diatribe will help explain how a crowd sing-along that comes out of nowhere and goes nowhere --punctuated by stinging guitar leads and encouraging raps by the leather-lunged Edgar Broughton -- could trouble the pop charts.

One year prior, vocalist and guitarist Edgar, his drummer brother Steve, and bassist Arthur Grant, had set the stage for this riotous catharsis with '69's eclectic Wasa Wasa album, and fans of that LP will no doubt thoroughly enjoy this single's B-side.

Tellingly entitled "Momma's Reward (Keep Them Freaks A-Rollin')," it's a hypnotic, rough-edged blues stomper capped by Edgar's Beefheart-ian growl, and a more typical (if that's possible) reflection of the early Broughton Band sound, for those of you not yet familiar.

I won't lie: it's not for everyone, but if you, like me, still value creative rebellion over conformity, even -- heck especially -- at the cost of commercial suicide, you'll want to join right in with our delirious, purifying chorus ...

"Out demons out! Out demons out! Out demons out!"
