which of ur ocs is most likely to write 'yard sard' on a yard sale sign, and on a scale of 1-10 how angry would their reaction be

and then like, 9 on the scale lol
i just really like that valka's picked up so many little things from spending so long with dragons, and the way she touches hiccup's hair in a couple of those gifs make it look like she's petting him like she would a young dragon
EXACTLY. That's another part I love so much about that. Humans just don't touch each other like that, or very, very rarely. But dragons. Earning a dragons trust involves touching their heads. Which might relate to the idea of protecting the head, it is a sign of trust. (It's also saying "I could bite your hand off, but I'm not/You could bite my hand off, but I'm trusting you not to.") So while humans would almost never touch another human like that, all the more so one they don't really know, Valka is able to hop that barrier because she spent twenty years away from humans surrounded by dragons. AND HICCUP ACCEPTS IT. It says a lot, like the difference between their first meeting when Hiccup is leaning away from Valka to later on when he leans INTO her touch. Dragons are COMFORTED by head touches, while for humans -- well, that would be the case, but only in cases of absolute trust and just HHHHGHGGG I'm repeating myself. Trust. Head touches. I need them and Valka and Hiccup and httyd 2 gave them to me and I am so glad. I still need more.
Augh okay I'm gonna go into another thing. So I have some theories about stuff like fanfiction, okay? Like the mysteries phenomena of Coffee Shop AUs (let's take these characters who are on a journey to save the world and make them do taxes). Another thing that I've noticed in fanfiction and general ideas across fandoms is characters being more trusting and intimate than they would ever dare to actually be. I think as humans we want and crave that intimacy -- not sexual or necessarily romantic, just intimacy, care, attention. We WANT to be able to trust someone completely, and in real life that's just too hard. And it's not just because people are scared, it's because of pride. We don't want to seem vulnerable, which is a requirement for intimacy and trust. So we project that onto characters. They are going through so much, and we know that intimacy and trust, these are things that would help, that offer comfort of a very deep kind. But because of pride and fear, because humans struggle with that so much (and our favorite characters especially are often in situations where there are not many people they can trust), we have to write fanfiction to see it. Most characters would not actually engage in the kinds of intimate comforts (not sex) we desire for one reason or another.
So, I dunno, Valka was a glimpse of that. I dunno. We're probably not going to ever see a character 100% emotional vulnerable. I don't think it would be realistic. But to be able to portray something smaller, a portion of that. I think that's important. To show people that it's okay to be open, vulnerable. The fact that it's a mother-son relationship we get to see is wonderful because it should be a relationship that allows for that, which also makes it more realistic. The fact that Valka had been away from humans/society for so long also made it more likely and believable and in-character.
I just. I'll never be over that small thing because it's not a small thing at all.
