There is a common misconception that if you are on the Spiritual path you are not allowed to succumb to negative emotions such as anger. Yet anger is a positive and life affirming emotion. When we get angry we are essentially saying, quit violating me, quit hurting me. There is a right way to express anger, a way aligned with your compassionate, conscious, and aware higher self, but the road to get there is not by ignoring the triggers of emotions nor to endlessly fester over it- but to instead embrace the experience and grow from it.

Muslim Rage - tales from the front lines

A couple of years ago, I spent some time in Turkey. After reading this week's Newsweek, I feel compelled to share some of my own experiences of Muslim rage...

My first stop was Istanbul, where I saw Whirling Dervishes performing acts of Muslim Rage. 

Whirling is an act of faith, where "Turning towards the truth, the follower grows through love, deserts his ego, finds the truth, and arrives at the "Perfect.""

Along the way, I was lucky enough to spend some time working on an archaeological dig in a village near Kaman. 

We met these ragers one weekend when we were walking through the town. There were so full of Muslim Rage that one of them invited my friends and I to their daughter's wedding the following weekend.

Later that day, we walked to top of a mountain near the village to look at the view. 

I'm yet to see a more Muslim rage-inducing view than the tops of the houses, mosques and rivers reflecting the afternoon sunlight.

 There were a group of puppies who lived on the site with us.

They were so exhausted (probably from Muslim rage) that they just did this most of the time...

Then again, it might just be because they were puppies.

On the way back from town one afternoon, our driver barely managed to contain his Muslim (road) rage.

All in all it was a pretty traumatic experience. 

The worst was having to experience this raging Turkish sunset almost every night of our stay.
