Richard Hunter micro docs
Things that these documentaries have in common... They are all personal documentaries, and so are all about a person and something they like to do. Voice overs are used, so they all have shots of them doing something whilst in the background they're talking about the thing they do in their free time. The micro docs are all really short and its filmed like an interview and then what the person is saying in 'said' interview is whats used behind the shots (what they say in the interview... that’s the voice over).
He calls them micro docs because they're short documentaries, I think a pro of this is that it wont get boring because its so short its jam packed with all the fun facts, I guess a con would be that if you wanted to know more then you can't... like that's it.
It makes you interested because it's so packed with information and whatever they're talking about. It's quite personal which also keeps you interested. I wouldn't watch a longer version personally because the things in them don't have anything to do with me, nothing i’m interested in... so not me personally but I would imagine other people might. Its fine being the length it is because it keeps it interesting and you learn everything u need to know in like 3 minutes.
I like the way the shots are taken, i think they're cool and the shots are pretty. I most like the one with the boy skating because you can see the bokeh balls of light when hes skating around and it's just really cool. If I were to make a documentary I would try to take a shot like that, just because I think its pretty.
I think I already covered montage, interview set up and voice over. I didn't really say about exposition... They make it more personal at the beginning and still show shots of like what it is that they're doing and while they're introducing themselves, I guess because it makes you wait and builds curious making you want to watch the rest.
