i think it’s important that “people with higher than average incomes could and should be doing more to help out the proles” and “doctors/lawyers/engineers are not the source of poverty and wealth inequality” are ideas that coexist in your head.
somebody who makes six figures could probably, realistically, and easily, fund an entire gofundme campaign for surgery or paying back rent or getting out of medical debt or what have you. a few thousand dollars a year is not the end of the world to them.
BUT☝️ they are not the arbiters of the economy. they don’t own your apartment building, they don’t command billion dollar corporations who pay minimum wage and price gouge on groceries, they don’t set the price of electricity or water or telecom, and ultimately they do not decide whether you live or die. those are billionaire things. those are generational wealth things. those are 50 million dollar salary offshore tax account buy a small island nation things.
