Charles Simic, Midsummer Feast
Midsummer Weekend— what a feast!
Mum always spoil me with great food, last weekend wasn’t any exception.
Midsummer Feast
Feast upon the landscape’s blessings! Dance till dawn approaches noon! Intoxicated by the merry! All is festive, calling soon!
Heros chosen, telling stories! Gasping at their flawless cool! Will you dance with me, my darling? Let the stiffness on the stool!
Dancing here under the trees, Feeling oh this vivid breese! Festive mood in ancient walls, Merry till end of time falls!
Eat and drink to your heart’s content! Open up all barrels now! Midsummer is the feast of hundreds! Floating in the festive flow!
Is there something you can get me? Give me your most cheering smile! Maiden dance with me till day comes! Feast of Midsummer we hail!
Dancing here under the trees! Feeling oh this vivid breese! Festive mood in ancient walls! Merry! Oh, end of time falls!
Now the feast comes to an end. All the people fall asleep. Midsummer ended with a blast, Like the old traditions keep.
Wandering here under the trees, Slightly pushed by a calm breese. Festive were the ancient walls, But now Morpheus softly calls.
