Midterm Portfolio
With each project I managed to come in under budget on the time. I attribute this to just sketching first and having a plan before opening up the laptop. With this midterm, I wasn’t particularly inspired by any of the projects. I used to love doing posters, but I think I’ve reached a point where I have done so many (in the context of a classroom) that I am ready to try something else. I am very excited to start the six pack project. I want to figure out a whole brand and implement it. I also just want to have fun with it.
Food Spreads - Midterm Portfolio
I have never particularly enjoyed magazine spreads, and this project was no different. I am very happy with my imagery for the first spread. I think it's a fun, colorful image that works with what the article is discussing. I don't want to talk about the second spread. Let's just act like it never happened.
Time Analysis
I spent 7.30 hours on this project. I spent a lot of time sketching layouts, making them in indesign, and throwing them out. I also had a very rough time getting the mockups to work properly. Again, this should not be so difficult. Sleep deprivation was taking its tole perhaps.

Herpetology Club Open House - Midterm Portfolio
(Link to the animated GIF)
As the event was taking place on valentine's day, I thought it would be fun to play off of that. What could be funnier than a chameleon confessing his love to you? Nothing. You have to go to the open house at that point.
I wish that I had used a better camera for my imagery. Unfortunately I did not have a better one on me when this little guy struck a pose.
For the website I went with a green color scheme. I avoided red since the event was only for one day, and a University club would not realistically change their entire site for a single event.
The gif was fun to make, it gave the chameleon life.
Time Analysis
I spent 9.45 hours on this project. I had to change my poster layout a few times, but I am glad that I did. Setting up the mockups for this project was a struggle for some reason. I have no idea why. It should not have been that difficult.

Jazz Combo Concert - Midterm Portfolio
When I head this was a jazz poster, I immediately thought of night clubs, and then thought of the fluorescent lights associated with their signage. I had extreme difficulty in making this a two color poster. Spot colors were not liking me at all. I attempted to use channels in photoshop with little success. I have used illustrator for two color work before with little difficulty which was the most frustrating part. I had the letters glowing before the two color process got the better of me. I'm glad that I was able to include the glow in the web banner.
Time Analysis
8.35 Hours were spent on this project. Roughly four hours were spent just fussing with the programs to try to get the two color process to work. The web banner was relatively easy to make however, and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Typeface Assignment, Century Gothic - Midterm Portfolio
I was inspired by the baroque period for this assignment. The absurd display of wealth makes me laugh, so I thought I would give it a shot at creating a modern version of it. I made the ornate decorations with letterforms of Century Gothic to emulate the trim of a room from that period.
I looked at modern luxury brands, which are very minimalistic, and try to create a sense of awe with their products.
My website was fun to code, but I eventually coded myself into a corner that I couldn't get out of.
Time Analysis
I spent the whole 12 hours working on this project. I had to scrap multiple poster designs, which was difficult to do, but my poster vastly improved because of it. The website was the easiest part of this assignment.

MAE Program Promotion - Midterm Portfolio
For this project, I wanted to incorporate a hand drawn feel. A chalkboard came to mind first, but I thought a dry erase board would be more relevant to Truman. If I were to do this again, I would figure out a way to make the text more dominant within the ribbon. In addition, I needed to put more time into the web banner. It needs some help.
Time Analysis
I spent 4.5 hours on this assignment. The most difficult part was sketching out the ribbon. Once I had that down it was straightforward to draw it out.
