I have decided that my goal living in the South will be to emulate southern gothic to the best of my "yankee" abilities and be the local witch in flowy dresses that lives in the creepy house down the lane with broken branches in her overgrown yard covered with ceramic frogs, and no one knows who she is, can't figure out where she came from or when she arrived or why she always shows up in swamps

Cottagecore: What I do now vs. what I would like to do

In scrolling through the cottagecore posts, I have unintentionally started doing some of the things and just wanted to make a post about it because I was happy about it.

First, I have picked up crochet again. I am currently working on an ombre scarf and it has been a learning curve but that was expected.

I would like to either get into knitting or just continue crochet BUT I would like to start making my own sweaters, socks, beds and toys for my cats, blankets....you get the idea lol. I’m excited to start doing this.

Second, I find that I make bread whenever it is cold outside (yes to heat up the house but also just because I can). I would like to make my own sandwich bread. My husband just mutters that it will be just as expensive to make the bread as it is to buy, and let me tell you. That is not why I want to do this. I want to because capitalism, to know what is in my bread, and just because I can. 

Third, I would like to start making more of my own clothing. My Mother-In-Law bought me a really nice sewing machine for Christmas last year, and I unfortunately haven’t gotten to use it yet. BUT my husband and I are in the process of buying a house (EEEEEEEE!!!!) and this house has THREE TIMES the square footage of our house now. I will be able to actually have a fucking craft room y’all. So fucking PUMPED about that!!!! Back to the sewing, I even know what I want to make first. Something along the lines of this....

Fourth, I want to have a GARDEN. I, regrettably, do not have a green thumb. But by the gods that isn’t going to stop me this time. I want to grow my own vegetables, I want grapes, I want blueberries, raspberries, strawberries. I wanna make my own jam and soups and salsa and spaghetti sauce and noodles. Eventually (after I convince my husband) I want to have a chicken coop and BAM fresh fuckin eggs every morning. I wanna have my own herb garden, inside and outside. Have fresh herbs for when I do my kitchen witchery. I cannot wait until next spring when I can start planting and such. I am going to buy some books to help me do better at growing things.

Lastly, I wanna compost things and collect rainwater to water my garden (I know that’s two things but my bread is done. What can I say) 

The overall urge that I have right now, is to be that weird person that always has the perfect solution to your ailment and her home is always warm and inviting and smells like food cooking with herbs drying above the sink and she has this beautiful dress that she made herself (can you believe it?). I want to limit my footprint and give back to the Earth. I’m so excited that I am an adult and that I can do these things now.
