Mayblade - Day 1: Good

HAPPY MAYBLADE EVERYBODY!!!

So uhh originally I was thinking Ginga is like the clear choice to draw for the prompt “good” but I figured that was a little too easy sooo

I researched some Japanese good luck charms / symbols to ward of evil and I learned about lions on the roof or shīsā

And I just immediately knew I had to draw Kyoya

Especially because I think his relationship with being or rather becoming a good person during season one is incredibly interesting

And ultimately I think he still partially struggles with seeing himself as good despite the fact that by the end of mfb he is undeniably a hero to the viewer

Also if anyone is interested in learning a little about shīsā, I put an info dump under the cut ⬇️

Shīsā are a figure in Okinawan mythology that are derived from Chinese guardian lions

(Which honestly I find guardian lion is a quite fitting description for Kyoya)

They are wards, believed to protect from evils and people place shīsā on their rooftops or flanking the gates to their houses

They are often seen in pairs of two, one open mouthed and one close mouthed with the open mouthed shīsā traditionally warding off evil spirits while the closed mouthed shīsā keeps good spirits in

(My drawing only has one shīsā, an open mouthed one and tbh I kinda just did that for composition reasons however I do kinda like how this implies that Kyoya is the second lion and specifically the one that keeps the good in)

There is lots more to know about shīsā but I’d honestly advise anyone who’s interested to just do some research themselves cuz it’s a very fun topic to read about :)

Mayblade - Day 5: Green

A fully rendered drawing??? Unbelievable

This one was lowkey hard to figure out, I’m not a big fan of color prompts and I mainly associate green with Kyoya and I didn’t wanna draw the same character twice within the same week

Luckily I remembered Masamune exists lmao

Mayblade - Day 30: Evil

(Yeah so I decided I’m not posting double today I am tired, I’m counting yesterday as my free day)

Was doing Art Fight prep stuff and I meant to put the mfb logos on my ref sheets so you can easily tell they are beyblade OCs

(I also have some dc OCs on there and am hoping to upload some of my original OC stuff by next year)

But I realized that the AF rules state you have to redraw all logos you wanna upload so I thought redesigning the logos to fit my au would be fun

So here they are (+ the logo for my original season 4 concept hehehe)

I’m rewriting every season to have a different protagonist (Masamune for s2, Yuki for s3, Julian for s4) cuz I love Ginga but I also think sometimes the show gives him too much attention

Hence the different bey designs in the corner :)

Uhhh I’ll also put PNG versions under the cut

I severely doubt it but just in case anyone wants to use these, feel free to do so as long as you give credit
