Sixth Love and Deepspace Masterlist

"Scissors."

"Scissors."

"Keep the incision clean."

"Got it."

You obediently clasp some gauze in your forceps and dab away the "blood".

"Retractors."

Retractors in hand, you open the incision wider for him. He spies the effected organ right away.

"Forceps."

You pass a clean set over to him. His eyes narrow in focus as he eases into the chest cavity. Slowly, carefully, he draws out a small, satin heart. He drops it into a metal tray.

"Replacement organ."

Trying not to giggle, you pass over another tray with a new heart resting on top. Using the same process as the first, he sets it neatly in place.

"Suture."

You pass over a curved needle already threaded. Rather than the normal suturing technique he would use, this is clearly one more suited to fabric. When he pulls it taught, closing the incision, it's nearly invisible underneath the fur. He snips the end and straightens out with a slight smile.

"Surgery was successful," he announces.

And you burst out laughing. Sitting cross-legged on the floor of your little dorm, you fall backward, heaving laughter out into the room.

It was your idea. The special stuffed animal was one you built back when you were with your ex, a long time ago. Now that you're mere weeks away from getting your degrees, you thought it would be fun to test out procedures on said plushie. Of course, you had to rope your best-friend-turned-new-boyfriend into the fun.

He chuckles with you, tidying up the spare sheets and utensils. "Have you had your fun now?"

You smack his arm lightly. "Don't pretend like you didn't enjoy it!"

"Perhaps."

Hugging your stomach, you work to catch your breath as you sit back up. You lift your newly fixed up stuffie and grin at him. "Our patient was very well-behaved, don't you think, Zaynie? I think they deserve something as a treat!"

He huffs. "What do you suggest?"

"Hmm..." You hold it out toward him. "Maybe a hug?"

"It's not customary to hug a patient after surgery."

"C'moooon, Dr. Buzzkill! How can you look at its cute little face and not wanna hug it?"

A red flush burns his ears and over his cheeks. He glances away, embarrassed. "I'm more interested in the face of my nurse."

You smirk, setting the plush down to lean in. You love when he gets all pink. "Oh yeah? Do I get a treat then, Dr. Li?"

He's still a little shy as he meets your gaze. A small smile appears, as he leans in. "Of course."

The kiss is soft and sweet. The kind of kiss shared by two young and bright college students on the verge of achieving their dreams. Matching grins impede the loving affection, and it breaks around a few giggles and hushed laughs.

A very successful operation, indeed.
