I really want Shelter Generations to be great ⊟
Coming to Switch next week, Shelter Generations collects two titles from Swedish studio MightAndDelight: Shelter 2, which has you playing as a mother lynx protecting / raising her kittens, then continuing as one of her surviving children; and Paws, in which you help a lost lynx kitten find its way back to its family. Publisher Circle Entertainment is also throwing in two of the developer's "living books" with the release, Fables from the Den and The Lonesome Fog.
While critics were not kind with Shelter 2′s reviews for PC, Wikipedia tells me the original Shelter packed an emotional punch uncommon for most games:
Reviewers praised the game for its emotion provoking nature, with the death of a cub "causing a genuine feeling of loss" for Ben Textor of Hardcore Gamer and the game's ending leaving Simon Parkin of Eurogamer "reeling with grief and bewilderment." In GameSpot's review Kevin VanOrd said that when a cub dies "there's a gnawing sense of failure, not as a game player, but as a parent with a duty to shield your young."
And you didn’t even get to name your cubs there like you can in the sequel.
I really need this to be good because I want to raise cute lynx kittens, and I think it would be fun to make friends with a bear. But I’m not sure I can handle the heartbreak of wolves taking one of my kittens. It sounds like a level of anguish I’m not equipped to handle, but you can’t run away every time there’s a chance you might get hurt. Sometimes you have to go through things.
Since I want to end this post with a positive thought, shout-outs to Nintendo Life for publishing an article about this game with the headline “Shelter Generations Will Be Feline Good When It Launches On 12th April”.

Ever wondered what it's like to be a mother badger? Me neither! But now I know, thanks to a beautiful game called Shelter. Watch with bated breath as I attempt to keep myself and five badger cubs alive.
