A young witcher Geralt, who is only waiting for his first year on the Path to begin in the spring, steps forward, accepting the challenge. He takes hold of the axe and, in one deadly blow, cuts off the knight’s head. But to everyone’s amazement, the now-headless Green Knight picks up his head. Before he rides away, the head repeats the terms of the pact, telling Geralt to seek him in a year at the Green Chapel.
