Tbh no real reason for this comic beyond “hey what if battat shadow crystal holder au but the plot isn’t just her being a secret boss but instead the manipulation/downward spiral aspect of it” specifically I wanted friend (just gonna use it as stand in here for “thing fucking with the secret bosses/revealing shit to them”) to give batts hints/leads, but never any actual answers, just leading her on a goose chase til she breaks. Knows too much but still knows nothing. That sorta deal I have like no other plans for this plot bc it was specifically engineered to be a one shot type thing but if anyone wants to expand on it any please please please do 💜!!! if that be like art or fic or just yapping about it shrugs idc I just had a lot of fun with this lol

In my eyes one day his costume had dog ears and when tenna saw he just saw them as a new variant of mike much to Battats confusion since literally all that changed at that point was the addition of ears. After realizing he could not get the things off (and realizing tenna was showing him much more affection) he decided “screw it. Guess I’m dog Mike.”

I wanna know your take on FRIEND. I am very curious.

Me personally my take is more FRIEND is something that is a friend in the way it itself is doing things that end up helping but are very. Unorthodox in method. Like how in the ERAM fight, while the FRIENDs try and hurt you, they can drop healing for you. They help ERAM as much as they help you. Though also this is me moreso hoping FRIEND isn't just roaring gc evil fucker who is dastardly and wants to be EVIIILLL and ROARING and it TOOK DESS!!! like everyone thinks. While it likely was there for the Dess incident, I think it'd be neat if it wasn't exactly true ill will but moreso just. Monkey's paw. Thing's a bit strange.

My detailed thoughts on FRIEND change depending on the day. However, there are a couple throughlines that always stay the same:

FRIEND is, above all else, an agent of Gaster. This, however, does NOT mean that they are incapable of having their own thoughts. This conclusion is mainly a result of FRIEND's "DEVICE_" prefix which irrefutably tells us that Gaster created them. Another large piece of evidence is the fact that FRIEND is, of all things, a black cat, flawlessly paralleling Toby Fox's white dog self-insert.

FRIEND is Gaster's eyes and ears. Essentially, I believe FRIEND is Gaster's primary means of "interfacing" with Deltarune's world: Everything that FRIEND sees, Gaster sees. Everything that FRIEND hears, Gaster hears. Like I've already written above, this does not mean that FRIEND has no will of their own.

FRIEND is Seam's missing cotton—or, in other words, FRIEND and Seam used to inhabit the same body. I mainly believe this because it just makes sense: It simply cannot be a coincidence that the two characters most intrinsically linked with shadow crystals are cats. FRIEND's apparent shapeshifting abilities also align perfectly with what you'd expect from a creature made of a soft, malleable material.

FRIEND is linked with Mike. While I'd still hesitate to say that they're the same person, that's the direction I'm currently leaning in. Either way, I believe Mike and FRIEND are very, very closely linked.

FRIEND is the Tail of Hell. This one's a bit of a no-brainer: FRIEND is a cat so they'd naturally have a tail. And with FRIEND's demonic theming, it only makes sense for said tail to be pointed. Also, I love the idea that their tail is meant to evoke a mouse cursor; it pairs really well with my belief that FRIEND is Gaster's central means of influencing Deltarune's world.

FRIEND did not lure Dess into the Shelter. For whatever reason, this one's quite controversial, but hear me out: Thus far, we've seen zero evidence that darkners can exist in the light world; it'd make no sense for FRIEND to be the sole exception. Instead, I believe FRIEND lured Dess into the Depths after she and Kris had already entered the Shelter and created a dark fountain. One may counter this with the "lost where the forest would grow" text, but 1. Hometown's forest already existed prior to Dess's disappearance, and 2. chapter 4's egg room taught us that the trees aren't literal. Kris merely uses trees as a means of blocking out unwanted thoughts and traumatic memories.

Ok we jest about it a lot but. WHY DOES AIRWAVES HAVE THE FREEDOM MOTIF?

The Mikes have nothing to do with freedom other than that they're a reference to people trying to figure out the mike mystery whom is related to at least 1 character with the freedom motif. But like. This is a Huge Leitmotif. And the characters themself are more related to TENNA'S relationship with Mike than spamton, which does not even touch freedom as a deltarune concept with a ten-foot pole.

Unless it's. Not the freedom motif. But the mike motif.

Ok. Ok. Fine. This musings post turned into an analysis/theory post. Fucking Great. So remember how kris is described as "the cage, with human souls with parts"?

That means the prophecy CONSIDERS THE SOUL AND KRIS AS ONE ENTITY.

So. That freedom thing. That gerson mentions twice in undertale.

Ok. Ok. Let me get this straight. Mike has met jevil, spamton, POSSIBLY tenna but it might have been the 3 mike-eteers the whole time, and if the did meet most likely briefly since tenna's only abnormal due to being a child of divorce and is leitmotifless

So, Mike is some entity that is clearly worshipped in different ways. Jevil's kinda too weird to deduce much about the relationship, Mike or not, at this moment but clearly he took the words to heart. Spamton is worshipping almost religiously, with ANGEL THEMES(!!). The mike-eteers are kinda scholarly worshipping? Like they're researching to PROVE the existence of their deity, and the true nature of it, in this case Mike.

Ok so gerson. Problem child here. Or is he?

The freedom leitmotif is *warped* in his theme. This is not a mistake. Gerson's relationship to this freedom, or as I'm proposing, Mike, is different. What is it?

Simple: as a historian whose stories were heavily inspired by his prophecy historical work, he is heavily familiar with the concept of the angel, which is heavily synonymous with freedom in undertale.

Mike is heavily related with the idea of freedom, clearly important with everyone with the freedom motif in some way.

The angel could give monsters freedom from the underground, or destroy them.

Mike could give you all the success in the world, or leave you with nothing.

All of this insane rambling to say...

Mike is the Angel of Deltarune.
