It's so painfully obvious that Noelle will be joining our party in chapter 5; I have no idea why Toby Fox is still so insistent upon hiding it đđđ
GOD DAMN IT I DON'T WANNA WAIT 2 WEEKS BRUH
My Deltarune Ch. 5 Predictions!
With Deltarune's next release on the horizon, I figured now was as perfect a time as ever to "lock in" some of my chapter 5 predictions!
Bear in mind, this post isn't meant to be all-encompassing, so it will exclude any thoughts on certain topics which I lack strong feelings about. I've also excluded most thoughts about the game's deeper lore (the Angel, Gaster, etc.) since I'm confident that very little of it will be relevant until the final two chapters.
To organize things a bit, I've roughly ranked each prediction on a descending scale from most confident to least confident:
Nintendo Direct tomorrow. Calling it now: Deltarune chapter 5 will be shadow dropped in the next 1-2 days.
When I say "Noelle Holiday is an unreliable narrator" I'm not just referring to the Weird Route, btw.

Idk if heâs going to be the final boss, but heâs definitely going to be important. I feel like thereâs been an uptick in people (mainly the new fans I suspect) expecting him to not be important, or to just be another silly guy to be âsubversiveâ (as if the most ominous and mysterious character in the utdr-verse being just like every other silly character in it is breaking a mold and not enforcing one) and I can never vibe with that. I feel like the people making those predictions werenât there during the og Undertale days, and donât know what it was like to have the idea of Gaster feel so unsettling. Seeing Gaster take on an increasingly important role in DR has been so exciting for me as someone whoâs been really invested in this character for a long time, and I donât think itâs crazy to say that UT was hyping us up for a spooky villain, and Iâm expecting a spooky villain.
The best proof that we're living in Hell is that it's 2026 and people still haven't figured out that Undertale and Deltarune don't make even the slightest attempt to judge your actual morals.
What do you think of the Tail of Hell. I saw someone think it might be figurative (thematically tying it to the bead toy in the hospital), but I don't really but it due to how its talked about like its an actual physical thing (see also how one of the organniks describes it as pointed). I suppose by extension I would ask what you thin the RING OF HEAVEN'S CALL is.
I agree with the fandom consensus that FRIEND possesses a literal pointed tail. Given they're a cat, their design would feel incomplete without it. However, I don't believe said tail was literally used to lure Kris and Dess into the Shelter. Rather, the two only encountered FRIEND after entering the Shelter's dark world, also known as ROOTS.
Regarding the RING OF HEAVEN'S CALL, I have a bit of a crack theory: "HEAVEN'S CALL" is the "garbage noise" you hear over the phone in dark worlds. Meanwhile, the "RING" represents the phone call required to hear said noise. Obviously, there's more to the theory than that, but I don't feel like typing it all out right now.
While there's no doubt on my mind that Kris knows about Gaster, I often wonder about the true extent of their knowledge. Like, is he merely a voice to them? Do they think he's some kind of cosmic being, such as their "guardian angel"? Is there a chance that they know most, if not all, of his backstory already? If so, what reason would Gaster have make them aware of it?
We have a far more solid foundation for theories about Gaster than we do for theories about "the Player" and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. Send post.
Every time I see a "Dess is the Knight, BUT âď¸" post, I just want to ask them something
Can you say with a completely straight face, that Asriel IS Flowey in Undertale?
Without his SOUL, without his monster body, having lost his compassion after lifetimes of time traveling, and after seeing him at his absolute worst throughout the entire game? No qualifiers?
I imagine for most people, the answer is unequivocally "yes". He literally turns INTO Asriel, and then back into Flowey, at the end. Just about everyone hugs him, too
Why then is there this insistence on putting these qualifiers on Dess Knight?
Dess is the Knight, but she's trapped in the Knight armor
Dess is the Knight, but she's controlled by FRIEND Smiley
Dess is the Knight but only her body is, her SOUL is stuck in the Depths (and that's the "real" Dess)
Dess is the Knight except not really, it's more the twisted memory or idea of who she was
Dess is the Knight, but she's being controlled by Gaster just like Kris controlled by the player (and therefore not responsible for anything she does just like Kris-)
Do you see the problem here? A complete and utter refusal to assign any agency to a character with probably the biggest role in the story outside the three heroes? ALMOST as if, accepting that it is Dess Holiday kidnapping Undyne, Dess Holiday killing or nearly killing Tenna and Jack, Dess Holiday beating up Kris and the fun gang and nearly starting the apocalypse, would be too much of an ask for a character that, by the end, you may well be asked to sympathize with, even forgive
And of course this is never a problem with other Knight candidates, for some reason: Rudy Knight doesn't have to worry about being puppeted against his will, or Asriel Knight or Asgore, they all get to have complex motivations and be morally questionable in the pursuit of their goals. Hell, at least Carol Knight doesn't get the puppet treatment either, so it's not like the fandom does this with EVERY female Knight candidate, just the single most prominent one that will have the most impact on the story
Anyway, let December Holiday do terrible things as the Knight, and not have an out about the Titan Heart making it do all that
I already know the Deltarune fandom is gonna be annoying as fuuuuuuck when it's inevitably revealed that Gaster is just an ordinary, albeit heavily flawed, guy with understandable motives as opposed to the "eldrich being with incomprehensible goals" which fans have collectively hallucinated over the past decade.
Who do you think is "that girl" Ramb mentions that he said played games of make believe with Kris. Most people (from my experience at least) say its Noelle, but it being Dess instead is also sometimes brought up but usually some people just shoot it down (usually by overplaying the potential age difference Dess and Kris had back than among other things).
Considering Noelle doesn't show even an ounce of familiarity with Queen, I can say with 100% certainty that it was Dess. And that's without even getting into the clear "continuity" between the Knight's dark worlds and Kris's.
Also, I completely agree that people greatly overexaggerate the age gap between Kris and Dess. In canon, they're only about 3 or so years apart, yet fanartists love depicting Dess as a goddamn skyscraper next to Kris lmao. And even if Dess were significantly older than Kris, you could quite effortlessly frame their "pretend sessions" as Dess humoring the weird kid she's babysitting.
The scene in chapter 4 where Ralsei feeds Kris the apple becomes very straightforward if you view the apple as representative of Kris's soul.
Ralsei repeatedly encourages Kris to "be themself" throughout Deltarune, so it makes sense for him to be the one to "present" Kris with their soul, the culmination of their being. He likes Kris for who they are, so he wishes to help them achieve a level of self-acceptance.
In the normal route, Kris hesitates at Ralsei's "offer," but they ultimately accept it. In doing so, they show their willingness to open up to their friends, to no longer cage away the aspects of themself which they view as shameful. This silent agreement comes into play shortly thereafter when Kris is seated at the organ. Their first instinct is to close themself off, to hide their passion for playing the piano. However, with a little encouragement from Ralsei, Kris once more shows their willingness to "be whole"âif not for themself, then for those who love them.
In the Weird Route, the scene plays out wildly different: Kris accepts Ralsei's "offer" violently, without a moment's hesitation. The route's events have radically shifted Kris from a state of inner conflict to a state of self-acceptance. However, this "self-acceptance" is pure delusion; they have disregarded their capability for love, passion, and tenderness exclusively in favor of their capability for violence and self-preservation. In other words, Kris has accepted the ERAM-like voice in their head, the one which makes them hesitate at the organ, as a core part of their identity. In doing so, they have discarded the version of themself that's capable of true, healthy self-acceptance.
The Deltarune fandom gives Carol so much flak for basically no reason đ Like, she could absolutely be a better mom, but... that's sorta about it so far? I don't doubt that she has more skeletons in her closet, but most people just seem to hate her for fandom-hallucinated and/or speculative reasons.
And that isn't even touching upon the fact that Carol's a workaholic mom with a missing daughter and a dying husband. She already has countless understandable reasons for acting the way she does; she doesn't also need to be blackmailing a child or plotting kidnappings.
Genuine question for other Deltarune theorists: If you were stranded in an endless abyss and already tried everything you could to escape, would you still be desperately calling out for help, much less contemplating the fact you no longer need to eat, even after 5-7 years had passed without a hint of change?
If your answer to the question was "no," as it should've been, then you should reconsider whether the "unused dialogue" is actually happening concurrently with the game's story.
