RHYE - VERSE
As each new day dawns upon us, I greet it with an eager appetite to devour whatever fresh new treats or veteran returns that it might offer us in droves. But never did I expect that a brand new song from Rhye would surface, considering the fact that sophomore album Blood has only been out for just over seven months. Yet, here we are, melting away to that signature silky voice we associate with Canadian musician Milosh as our eyes feast on the panoramic visuals for new Blood B-side Hymn. The video was co-directed and produced by Milosh and frequent creative partner Genevieve Medow Jenkins. We watch as a nameless woman walks amongst the rocky coves and mountainous cliffs of Big Sur (one of our favorite places in California) and alongside its neighboring tranquil forests and waterfalls. It’s a misty odyssey that mirrors the foggy ethereal, beautifully haunting aesthetic of Rhye’s music. I find myself fighting an incessant urge to take Rhye’s music with me, right now, and revisit the breathtaking vistas of Big Sur, where I’ve spent many a weekend camping on its bouldered beaches and within its verdant woods. Rhye hits the road again across the US soon, including dates with Jungle and Your Smith. It was a real treat swaying to Rhye’s velutinous ballads live at the Warfield earlier this year. If he adds a Bay Area date to the new tour, we just might have to make our way out again. Hymn can be streamed via Spotify, here, or purchased from iTunes, here. Tour info can be found on Rhye’s website, here.
