Fave Romantic Movies 10/15: 17 Again
17 Again is a one of the more unique of my favorite rom-coms. It is really light and happy and very funny. The age or body switching thing has been done before but never like this. Mike reverses in age while still staying in the current time period. Like everyone has at some point he wishes he could just go back and he sort of does. Zac Efron is so freaking amazing in this movie. He’s not just a man reliving his glory days. He’s a man who gets a chance to be young again and takes full advantage of it but at the same time uses it to realize what he has in the present that he’s been missing. The scenes with him and high school and him and Ned together are absolutely hilarious but in a light and simple and clean way. His friendship with Ned is really sweet and meaningful and I really love it. I think the scenes with young Mike and his kids are really well done and sweet. They had some opportunities to be really awkward but they were handled really well. The scenes with young Mike and adult Scarlet were sort of weird for me in the beginning especially when I really thought about the age difference but as the movie kept going I just found them really sweet and meaningful and romantic. They really look at what it’s like to be young and not just loving someone but really being in love with them. It does the rekindling of a kind of lost love story really well. I really like the message of this movie because it makes you think about what you have now that you’ve taken for granted. If you’re looking for a fun really light hearted unique deep movie watch this.
