Syria’s Secret Library: The true story of how a besieged Syrian town found hope

This book is so moving and powerful. From the first words of the introduction to the last word of the book it captured my heart and enlightened me to the plight of the Syrian people. Horrific stories of civil war but a thread of hope in the tale that is told of the Library that was created by the residents of besieged Daraya. I can’t put in words how this book made me feel. The power of literature cannot be ignored, that much is made clear from this true story. I cried a lot while reading the book so moved was I by the stories that were told. We need to keep telling our stories and reading books.

Also, so many tears. THIS really happened. This is truth and it makes my heart hurt and cry but at the same time feel such hope. I’m not sure I’m going to make it through this book unscathed. And that’s okay. We need more stories like these from war torn areas of the world. And we need to do something for people who are facing civil war. Education is one big factor and these young people get it. Will do a review of this book once I finish reading it.
