RIP Peter Green When Prior shot THAT guitar The Peter Green Guitar... Mike didn't just sit stare at it for half an hour... Phil Harris explained that people arranged appointments to visit the guitar and do just that! As Mike photographed this iconic guitar, he absorbed the history behind the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. Played on Fleetwood Mac's early albums, this Holy Grail of Guitars was acquired by Gary Moore who loved it too. The unique sound was down to a factory error.. ... a reversed magnet on one pickup. Strangely enough, Joe Bonamassa acquired an original ’burst with the same condition. Moore paid tribute to Green in the album Gary Moore Plays Blues For Greeny in which he covered his greatest songs ... as have so many others - but not playing The Green Gibson. BB King, on hearing Green play, once said that he/it made the sweetest tone and that Green was the one guitarist that gave him the cold sweats. Back to Moore, sadly money & health problems forced him to sell and the guitar was purchased by a private collector for, wait for it ...1.2 million and then, resold it for ... $2million. No wonder Prior (literally) felt a million dollars today.. Make that two. . . .
