Austin PD’s response to peaceful protest. They also hit a woman in the chest with a rubber bullet for yelling (she had to have emergency surgery to remove it), and shot rubber bullets from a bridge onto a wheelchair user below.
The incitors of violence are the police.
UPDATED first-hand account from Arley Nevar:
What you see in the news is not the truth.
I was at the protest in Austin for 8 hours yesterday and did not see one single act of violence from any civilian.
The entire 8 hours, there were people walking around passing out free water, snacks, and sunblock, looking after one another.
At least 12 times, there were tear gas grenades thrown into the peaceful crowd.
At least 12 times, there were several minutes of shooting rubber bullets into the crowd, many times at point blank.
I saw a Black Man standing 6 feet in front of an officer, silently holding eye contact, hands down at his hips, completely peaceful. The officer sprayed him point blank in the eyes with pepper spray. The man just stood there. Other protesters rushed to pour milk into his eyes. He just stood there like a statue.
If you are not there, you will not see the truth.
Do not express your disgust with what you're seeing on the news when you are not seeing what is really happening.
If you want to form an opinion of the protesters, get out there and join them first. Then, you'll see for yourself what's really going on.
