Wreckage
Freddie 1969 nyarán sikeresen megszerezte a diplomáját az Ealing Főiskolán, így hivatalosan is grafikus végzettséget kapott. Az iskola elvégzése után nem rendelkezett teljes munkaidős állással és nem is szándékozott munkahelyet keresni. Elvállalt néhány grafikus munkát, hogy valamivel több pénzre tegyen szert, de még mindig a zenei karrier gondolata állt az első helyen. Freddie és az Ibex többi tagja, egy barátjuktól kölcsön kapott, öreg Ford Transit furgonnal járták Angliát.
1969. szeptember 9-én léptek fel újra, a The Sink nevezetű alagsori szórakozóhelyen, Liverpoolban. Freddie színpadi teljesítménye jelentősen javult és már akkor felfedezhetőek olyan mozdulatok, amelyek később a védjegyévé váltak. „A mikrofontartási módszere szerintem az Ibexes időszakra vezethető vissza. Akkoriban még nem volt olyan jó hangfelszerelés, és gondolom ide-oda lóbálta a mikrofonállványt, aztán leesett az alja, és nem tudta visszatenni. Freddie folytatta a fel-alá járkálást és a legtöbbet próbálta meg kihozni a helyzetből.” – emlékezett vissza John Taylor, basszusgitáros.
Londonban nem sok esély volt arra, hogy fellépésekre kapjanak lehetőséget, de Freddie Londonban akart maradni. Úgy gondolta, talán az együttes nevének megváltoztatása jót tenne a bandának, így egyik este felhívta a gitárost, Mike Bersont és azt javasolta, nevezzék át a bandát Wreckage-re (Roncs). A Wreckage első fellépése 1969. október 31-én zajlott le az Ealing Collegeban, mely után nem sokkal később a dobos, Mike „Miffer” Smith kilépett az együttesből. „Miffer már nincs a bandában,mert egy rohadék, fogta magát és lelépett, azt mondta tejkihordó lesz Widnesben. Az a nyomorult Miffer mindenkinek azt mondta, hogy igazi drámakirálynő lettem.” – írta egy barátjának szánt levelében felháborodva Freddie.

Freddie successfully completed his degree at Ealing College in the summer of 1969 and received a formal graphic education. After finishing school he did not have a full-time job and did not intend to look for a job. He took on some graphic work to make a little more money, but the idea of a career in music still came first. Freddie and other Ibex members, borrowed from a friend of theirs, were traveling to England on an old Ford Transit.
They performed again on September 9, 1969 at The Sink, a basement nightclub in Liverpool. Freddie's performance on the stage has improved dramatically, and by then he has been able to discover gestures that later became his trademark. “I think the method of holding the microphone dates back to the Ibex period. At that time, the sound equipment was not as good and I think he was slamming the microphone stand back and forth, then he dropped his bottom and couldn't put it back. Freddie kept going up and down trying to get the most out of the situation.” - recalled John Taylor, bassist.
In London, there was little chance of getting action, but Freddie wanted to stay in London. He thought that changing the band's name would be good for the band, so one night he called up guitarist Mike Berson and suggested he rename the band to Wreckage. Wreckage first performed at the Ealing College on October 31, 1969, shortly after drummer Mike "Miffer" Smith left the band. "Miffer is no longer in the band because a bastard, he took hold and stepped down, said he would be a milk supplier in Widnes. That miserable Miffer told everyone that I had become a real drama queen.” - wrote Freddie, outraged in a letter to a friend.
