Contemplation. It's not something I'm great at. Well, that's not exactly true. It's something I hide from. I build my days out of busy work, missed appointments and bouts of frustration that some might mistake as a general malaise.
It's not often that I am able to just sit and reflect, let alone enjoy such an activity.
Last week's episode with Pat Thomson showed me quite clearly that I would be well served to find more time to reflect in my life.
This week's episode drove it home. Mike Wagner finds an hour EVERY day to walk and reflect. Wow.
And so I have begun. It started with sitting on Lake Ontario beside my camera doing long exposure work. But I found it difficult to find the time and energy to take a photography expedition every day. So I decided to take the couple of hours a day already spend walking Mikka and turn this into my reflection exercise.
It had gotten so easy to just go to the dog park near our house and stand around chatting with the other "dog dads". Now I see our walk time as a mini-adventure, albeit a calm one, where we explore parts of the ravine system or scout out new beaches.
The above photo is from a few days ago when I somehow managed to get us lost and stuck between the bluffs and a stormwater retention system. Covered in mud from our slide down the "trail", it suddenly dawned on me just how much I was enjoying this quiet time with Mikka.
My days seem lost without it. Now I just need to see if this brings any clarity to what I am "at heart", my work and my vocation.
Let us know if the last couple episodes have resonated with you. Eric and I would love to hear of any changes you're trying out as a result.
